yeah that would be cool, i'd not make something that has a steers arrangment "as such", like rc cars, personally i'd have 2 electric motors that ran 2 belts. i'd use 25 turn + motors. every slow but torquey. if u dont know whjat i mean ill post pics if u ask. i mean runs it with tank like characteristics )how its moves.
:Dhave fun

This sounds like a topic for the robot forum too ;)

Tank treads would be a good way to go, maybe even a walking robot

RE: found a cave

You really don't need a robot for that. Get a If you have an offroad RC, not even hobby quality and get one of those real time cameras like from lakeshore.com and a flashlight, then put them on the car, put it to the bottom of the cave and watch the camera on a TV as you drive around.

you would want a tether not only to lower it down but to pull it back up. and if it gets stuck you will want a tether or else you will have to go in after it.

Get a rope and go exploring. I say go yourself, it will be an adventure. Make sure you bring a buddy and he has a cell phone, just in case. If you do build something to go down there you should post some pictures of it, and whats down there.... the boogieman, lol.

This is bad advice. If you happened to get hurt or stuck down there, you would end up dead. A cell phone will not work in a cave. If you don't have the proper equipment, chances of an accident are way up.

If you do decide to explore it yourself. Show someone where it is, tell them when you're going and when you plan on being back, then stick to what you've said. Read up on caving as much as you can beforehand. Bring 3 sources of light each (with brand-new batteries).
