I have one of those sitting on my workbench. I am not sure of the power but i know that it is designed for airplane use.

RE: look at this engine

those are sometimes on free flying airplanes

gubbs3 03-24-2005 11:33 PM

RE: look at this engine

They definitely only for airplane use. I believe they will turn about a 3 inch prop.

RE: look at this engine

Ok, heres the ifo (I have one also):

They are 0.049 engines designed to run on 0% Methanol.
They do not have a carburettor as such, they have no throttle control, it is merely start it and leave it till the fuel runs out.
They do not have a tuned pipe, they have a few holes at the top of the cylinder, this makes them very noisiy, much noisier than my 0.15 in my on-roader.
They heat up like crazy, this is because the un-burned oil and extra stuff that usually gets spurted out the stinger on a car gets spurted out the holes of the cylinder which covers the cylinder, effectively reducing cooling.

or a nitro hairdryer! :)
[X(][X(] Do you realize how totally awesome that would be. You could put a nitro engine in there and a blower that blows air over it. It will spit all of the excess fuel in your hair and act as gel, cutting the time it takes to do your hair in half. You should think about getting it patented.

Yeah, what a great idea! You could also make the cover removeable so it also acts as a hair clipper as well, so you can cut, gel and dry your hair all at once, I shall call it:
The 3 in 1 Nitro Hair styler ("Cause your worth it!").

I could make million! I could be rich, rich, RICH!!!!!!!!!!!! [sm=sunsmiley.gif][sm=RAINFRO.gif][sm=sunsmiley.gif]

I have a box full of these at home... They were indeed from control line airplanes... they were meant to run for about a minute then stop... the fuel tank is built into the backplate and mixture is controlled by the single needle... They were a ***** to start and were extremely noisy and dirty... I have fond memories of them growing up.. I even had one in a helicopter, which I still have... maybe 30 years old... probably still works... As far as hp... probably not mote than 1/10 hp...

sorry for the double post.... hit buttom twice... The Helicopter goes straight up for about 15 seconds to about 200-300 feet then the motor stops and it autogyro's down .... It worked real well as long as there was no wind... I lost a few as a child.... saved this one..

Ok people, I made my first prototype of my Nitro Hairdryer. I designed it in Solid Edge v16 - a 3D CAD graphics program, come and see it [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/The_worlds_first_Nitro_Hairdryer%21/m_2819938/tm.htm]here. Enjoy![/link]

RE: look at this engine

Don't be so quick to order your engines just yet... If you read the estes or any other site on the engines... they are around $30.00... closer inspection of the estes site was $4.99 for the glow plug and $1.00 shipping... not the engine... I remember these well when I was a kid.... little screamers...... I wish they were that cheap...

Cummins 03-30-2005 08:38 AM

RE: look at this engine

Nope, read again. Its $4.99 and to quote:

Now for the catch...the glow plug comes attached to our #8901 COX SureStart Production Engine...meaning you get the glow plug, standard cylinder, piston, piston rod, crankcase, crankshaft, drive washer, snapstarter spring, plastic "SureStart" back plate and needle valve for less than half the price of a new standard glow plug. All of these parts are included, so don't wait, quantities are limited and this offer won't last forever.
So that $5.99 shipped with glow plug and engine. Good deal! I already have one of those engines. I am working on the construction of the Nitro Hairdryer as soon as possible.

lol. You got me started now:

I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I own two Traxxas's and I play all day

Mounties : He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He owns two Traxxas's and I play all day

I cut down trees. I eat my lunch.
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.

Mounties: He cuts down trees. He eats his lunch.
He goes to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he goes shopping
And has buttered scones for tea.

Chorus : I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I own two Traxxas's and I play all day

I cut down trees. I skip and jump.
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars.

Mounties : He cuts down trees. He skips and jumps.
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing
And hangs around in bars?!

Chorus : I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I own two Traxxas's and I play all day

I cut down trees. I wear high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie,
Just like my dear Mama (or Papa in later versions)

Mounties : He cuts down trees. He wears high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra?!

Chorus : I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I own two Traxxas's and I play all day

Chorus : I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I own two Traxxas's and I play all day

I've got a small one like that at home as well. Mine is an old Black Widow, designed for a glider. They were meant to be used to fly the glider up as far as the small tank of gas would last, then you could glide the rest of the way.

Only a HPI RS4 RTR3 Evo. I only started this hobby 4 months ago (on precisely the 25th December 2004 to be exact!).
