Mini scale or 1/10th?
Hi all,
I'm 29 now and it's been like 15 years since I left RC. Used to have a Tamiya Vanquish but now my son is using it as a push toy (yea, I still have it after all this years...). I want to start back this hobby and relive all the glories that it brings. The problem is, I'm not sure where to start but most definitely I want to get an electric since it won't affect my relationship with the neighbours. So, back to my question, is the handling of 1/18th (RC18T) or 1/16th (Mini inferno) on par with a 1/10th? I prefer the smaller scale due to track flexibility (like at the back of my house...) but I prefer to have kind of similar 1/10th handling. Do the small scales behave in similar manner at the same high speed (let say 30ish mph with brushless)? Allright folks. Thanks in advance for any help. |
RE: Mini scale or 1/10th?
A 1/18th handles very differently to a 1/10 because -proportiantly - they are much lighter so they handle differently and any bump and stone they hit is HUGE for something so small. I would say go for a micro though if you intend to do some backyard bashing unless you mean uncut grass and pretty bumpy/muddy in which case go for a 1/10 stadium truck like a rustler or stampede. If you wanna go seriously bumpy, go for an e-maxx.

RE: Mini scale or 1/10th?
the rc18t handles surprisingly like a 1/10th scale truck
It has alot of after market parts and best of all is 4 wheel drive I can run it in grass stock and with brushless and a 3 cell lipo you could smoke a 1/10 (how does 60mph sound) they are fun I enjoy mine much more then my 1/10th. Its nice because you can drive it inside when the wheather is bad and its also very strong (though I somehow keep finding ways to break it) also the parts replacement and hop ups are much cheaper check out other 1/18 scale websites for more info on them Nick |
RE: Mini scale or 1/10th?
Hey, thanks for the reply. '60 mph' 'Smoke 1/10th' Now that sounds nice...:D...Really nice...Maybe 1/18th is the way to go. And for the same kind of money for a normal 1/10th, I might get my self a tricked out RC18T, maybe the FT option. If I ever turn out at a local track, the others might laugh at me but we'll see who gets the final laugh...hahahahahah...[sm=lol.gif] Cheers. |
RE: Mini scale or 1/10th?
racing your 1/18 scale against 1/10 scale it will get run over [>:]

RE: Mini scale or 1/10th?
are you joking they are not that small
its honestly say about half the size I have a TC3 and Rc18T both by AE and have very simmilar chassis and its about half also if I put a mamba 8000 and 3 cell lipo The 1/10 guys wouldent be able to catch me I have seen vids of 1/18 scale cars dominating a 1/10th nitro race because it handled better and he could hold more speed throughout the track its all about consistancey I wish I bought the FT but it wasnt out when I bought mine, I now have to buy all the hopups and and ended up ditching the stock stuff anyways,(when I go brushless I will loose the ESC) I am planning to get the all aluminum kit also which makes from the suspention down all aluminum and then pick up a CF chassis Its should be fast and strong Nick |
RE: Mini scale or 1/10th?
personaly i think people are gettin the minis because they are trendy at the moment. i drove a mini and i did not like it at all. im sure some minis are nice, but i would recomend gettin a 1/10 scale.

RE: Mini scale or 1/10th?
Yeah I dont know its kinda fun having both
I agree it the trend right now but the main reason I bought it was because its cheaper to operate and replace parts on it then 1/10 a GP1100 pack is like $22 where as a GP3300 packs is $35+ the performance is also pretty good pop a speed 300 is it and you can get 30mph from what I have read they also can be run inside and in smaller areas which I find is fun (I jump mine in my house too) but you can also bring it outside and jump it huge (Remember the buggy jumping the house... that kind of huge with a reedy motor and battery pack and not break a thing) Check out one18th.com for pics on that. Nick ps I am planning to go get some hopups for mine tommoro I will post pics when I am done (or if I am lucky may pick up a mamba) |
