Engine ShutDown
Has anyone got a better idea of how to shut down the Engines other than pinching the fuel line with your fingers? I have an Evader and the fuel line wraps around the cooling fins of the engine, so when I try to pinch the lines I usually burn my fingers, can anyone tell me of a simple fix to this? I mean there has to be a clamp....like an IV clamp the hospitals use, or something...
Thanks in Advance |
RE: Engine ShutDown
Many engine manuals reccomend pinching the fuel line with a pair of pliars, but i find that the easiest (and quickest) way to kill an engine is to plug the exhaust. Just put your finger over the stinger, and in under a second the engine will die. As the finger is only in contact with the hot surface for a split second, it is unlikely to burn.
Just to reduce the chance you can lick the finger you use, or use the heel of a shoe. |
RE: Engine ShutDown
on my evaders i just stop the flywheel with my finger, do it quickly while idling.

RE: Engine ShutDown
I never tried the finger thing. I'd hate to get a "paper-cut" from a flywheel spinning at 5k RPM! Ok maybe I'm a wussy but a whole lot of people do it.
I simply cover the exhaust with my finger (or anything else) and it works fine. Only problem is, it'll make your engine a tad rich to start again. ram |
RE: Engine ShutDown
If you wait for your car to idle down and then touch the flywheel with your finger, it should stop almost instantly. You won't hurt your finger, or lean out the engine (pinching fuel line) or pack it up (plugging stinger) and so starting the next time will be very easy, relatively speaking.
One tip I would suggest, is to notice the direction of rotation of the flywheel. When you put your finger on the flywheel, make sure it is going with the direction of movement, rather than against it. Try this for a visual: Think about a bicycle upside down and you spin the tire really fast. If you put your finger on the tire in the proper direction (spinning away from the finger), your finger will just rub against the tire as it continues to spin. If you place your finger on the tire in the other direction (spinning towards your finger), and you catch part of the tread, OUCH!!. Works for me. Good luck. |

Easiest way to stop motor is by plugging stinger. Especially if you have an exhaust deflector. Second easiest is stopping the flywheel. I believe the best way to stop the motor is by stopping the flywheel. Mine always restarted better and easier this way. |
RE: Engine ShutDown
I nkow a company that makes a pinch that you put on the line. I also rerouted the fuel line so that I could do it easier.

RE: Engine ShutDown
plus the flywheel would be hot to try and stop it form spinning.

RE: Engine ShutDown
I stop my engine by pressing forward on the transmitter.

RE: Engine ShutDown
My LHS suggested removing the fuel line all together from the Carb, as that would be basically the same thing as pinching the fuel line, but the all mighty manual says not to let the Engine run out of gas, so isnt pinching the gas line off, running the Engine out of gas? lol, im not rocket scinetist but ....*shakes head*.. I dunno, I will try the flywheel thing, that sounds most logical..
