engine break in help
 

Ok i just bought a Duratrax - Nitro Evader with a dtx 18 3.0cc engine. This is my first rc nitro car and I am having some deep trouble getting it to run, I did everything the manual told me to, I even watched the tape. I got it to run a couple times for a few minutes but then if i let it iddle it would stall on me now it wont start again. I tried everything, I need some help on how to tune the needles and how to get the engine to run. I appreacite your help :)

do you have pull or electric start

take of the air filter and cover it with you finger put the glow plug starter on and put the trigger trim all the way so its a full trottle next pull it a couple of times to get the fuel into the engine next put the air fliter on and give it a few tugs till it starts then take the glow charger off and put the trigger trim on low, far enough that the back whells start to spin then your ready to go;)

it's a pull start engine, I got it to run for like 5 mins, i brought it outside, it was freaking great but then it died and i never got it to run again
ps: i'm still on the first tank of the breaking-in process...
I was reading the duratrax website and it said to turn both needles to the starting point so now they're all messed up, i know i gotta turn the high speed needle 2 turns from the beggining

When you get the needles worked out take off the air filter and put and few drops of fuels into the carb.

just try cheating by settin the carb back to factory settings, heatin the enigne up with a hair dryer until its nice and hot and then try and start, it shuld start up a treat in cold weather

As cossie says, heat it up with a hair drier to help things out.
For what its worth, the new engines Ive had have all been a right bugger to get going sometimes, so your not alone.
Basically dont give up, set the needles to factory if youve moved them(normally 2.5 turns out on the HSN and 1/2 to 1 turn in from flush on LSN) prime the engine, leave the glow warmer on there a few seconds, then give it a go.
If it fires up and idles but dies as you pull away, just wind the LSN out 1/16th and try again. Should be nice and rich when running in.
Dont allow too much fuel into the engine when starting as you can get hydraulic lock up and can bend rods and damage the engine, and dont fully extend the pull start as it can weaken the spring and break it. Short sharp pulls is all it should need.

I finally got it to work after lots of effort lol, but it's working fine now, the glow starter battery was dead, i bought rechargable one and it worked just fine. thx for all your help :)

Hope you like the evader, its a really fun truck to have. I have mine and it runs great once you get past all the break in stuff.
