Battery problem.
I recently bought some raovac batteries and i was chargeing them in a tx controler charger, and the batteries started oosing out battery acid. This is what the customer service guy said to me from rayovac. Read from bottom up. I would now just like to say never buy Rayovac batteries they ****ing Su**
It states directly on the batteries that they may leak if you try to charge them in an improper charger. So that does explain why they leaked. Just because they are rechargeable does not mean that any charger will work. There are many types of rechargeable batteries and each type has a specific charge type. That is why there are different chargers on the market. And the material that is in the battery is not acid, it is potassium hydroxide, which at best is mildly irritating if not washed off the skin. Acid has not been used in batteries other that cars, since the the 1970's. So please do not be worried about the material, unfortunately because they were not charged correctly the warranty is void. Thank you, Noah Miller That still isn't the reason y the should have leaked that is a safty hazard haveing batteries leak acid. I deserve something I will never buy a rayovac product ever again That would be the reason they leaked. The rechargeable alkaline batteries can only be charge in an alkaline charger, made by Rayovac. It does state this directly on the packaging. I am sorry. Thank you, Noah Miller no i charged them in my rc truck controler because it has a thing in the back to plug in a charger cord and when i open it up all the batteries were bubbleing out acid and i think it may have wrecked my controler Jason I just want to make sure I fully understand what has happened. You bought rechargeable alkaline batteries and charged them in your RC truck charger. Comments: Hi recently purchased some of your rechargable alkaline batteries about a mounth and a half ago and today i was chargeing them in my rc truck controler for one of my trucks, and I opened up the back plate to keep in the batteries and 6 of the batteries were bubleing out battery acid, and it reacked 8 of the batteries and i think they reacked my controler. This wasn't a cheep controler ether. This ijs a bad product I I think I should you guys should deal with it. Jason |
RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
You RC controller and/or charger probably state: Use only Nickel Cadium (NiCad) rechargable batteries...or Use Only Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries (NiMH) .
Rechargable ALKALINE batteries must be charged in a special charger. Most RC stuff is Nicad or NiMH, and the charger will state what it charges. You goofed. |
RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
You definately goofed.... If you cooked the cells, they were probably Nimh cells and the charger was Nicad... the nimh are very sensitive to heat and will explode if not charged correctly... Don't blame rayovak for this.. It would have happened with any brand you used... Sorry for the truth.....[:o]

RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
sorry... I meant alkaline batteries which are not remotely capable of being charged on a nicad/nimh charger... different voltages and peaks... they will most certainly explode/leak...

RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
I use lots of the rayovak AA batts . It was probably too high a rate and no way to terminate the charge, so it over charged.

Welcome to the forum and remember Think before you act lol. Ben |
RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
Your response to the costomer service person was also very poorly written
"y" why? I always make sure to charge batts properly to make sure this does not happen Nick |
RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
omg why dont ppl use the spell check

RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
I would NEVER abbreviate words for customer service letters. Spelled wrong is OK, but using y for "why" on purpose?
"This ijs a bad product I I think I should you guys should deal with it. " No, you deal with it, they will help you gain product satisfaction, that sounded like you were begging. And now they know you are just a kid, they will help you even less. On the topic of leaking batteries, I had some NIMH batteries leak in my 2PL. They probably lasted over 20 charge cycles. I just used it at the track, brought it home and opened it up and it was melted, they were really hot too. A few survived the heat and I still use them. |
RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
i charge my NiMH is a NiCd charger all the time.

RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
This problem is completely your fault, not rayovac. You charged the batteries with an improper charger. Do some research; ask questions before you try new stuff. There are many types of batteries, Nimh, Nicad, Lion, Lipo and each requires a specific type of charger for that battery. Lucky you weren’t trying to charge Lipo's they would have exploded on you.

RE: EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS IT IS VERY IMPROTANT!!!!!!!
I use a lot of Rayovac batteries and for the most part had good luck. The only problem I had was with one of their chargers and they replaced it with out any problem as well as sent me a couple sets of free batteries. They even paid for the shipping both ways. You defiantly have to use the right charger for the right application!

RE: Battery problem.
someone before asked, why use rechargable alkaline?
I use grandcell rechargeable alkalines in my reciever on my nitro car becasue each AA battery has a voltage of 1.5. Any AA NiMH or NICd will only have a voltage of 1.2, 4 battery's add's up to 4.8 volts, whereas 4 re-alk batts adds up to 6. Most recievers like 6 volts, and my fail safe cuts in at 4.2 volts. So thats why. Also the grandcell batts have NO memory effect, so if i've only used them for a little while that day, i can charge them back up, withtout any worries. also, the charger that came with my battery's is a dual charger, so u can charge NiMH with it too, it has a little select switchtingo, Just thought i'd add that. The charger and 4 battery's only cost me $25 AUD and I've used them for months without any hassles |
