bOOst,

Dont bother with replacing the piston and rod. Theres could be metal shards in the bearings and possibly scored the bore as well...plus parts are tricky to find. The engine isnt the strongest and so for the cost of repairing it and then have it go again, Id spend my money on a replacement engine.
Have a look in either of the Smartech threads (Winner 3 Buggy is in general discussions and Winner one is in onroad section) for engine options.
I have the OS.18 CV-RX in my Winner 3 and it screams along (about $100US at Tower hobbies)

Hope it helps

RE: What to do?

Yep...bolts right up. Swap the clutch and flywheel over and thats it. Only 'issue' if you can call it that is the air filter on the OS is much bigger and so doesnt fit under the body shell., but nothing a few minor modifications cant fix.
Make sure you get the pull start version if you want a direct replacement, otherwise if you have a starter box, you can get the other version (non-pullstart).
Be good to post in the buggy or on-road thread as well, let others know how it went and any issues you had with it.
One problem with Smartechs is lack of information and so the more people that post in the threads, others will benefit.

cheers
