engine trouble!!!!!!!
my engine will run for about 5 secs then shut of, in order to get it started again I have to take the glow plug out and crank it over a couple of times to get the fuel out then put the plug back in and try again, I dont know if i am getting to much fuel, or if my glow plug isnt burning hot enough or what's going on, it is a .18 OS, if it is my glow plug, what one do i want to buy, if anyone has any tips or advice on how to get this thing running please let me know, ill be checking this about every hour so please help me!!
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
You're definitely getting too much fuel. What are your needle settings on the carburetor?
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
the os manual told me to turn it all the way clockwise and turn it two times counter clockwise....thats where it is now...
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
check your plug is a must. make sure you can read you glo plug too. or just if its bright orangy red. then check your needles again
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
Your carb needles are right, then it's your glow plug and/or throttle position while trying to start the engine. If your carb is open while trying to start the engine, you can easily flood it.
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
You should have 3 needles to set on it. Low speed needle, high speed needle and mixture setting. Set all of them to manual settings, take off air filter and see how open your idle is set. If I am not mistaken it should be open about as thick as a quarter. If it is the same as the os 12 then the high speed needle the one that has the brass housing and stick up next to the fuel line should be 2 turns out form all the way in. The mixture setting should be 1 turn in from flush with the carb housing and the low speed needle should be flush with its housing.
Please anyone correct me if I am off but I remember thats how my settings were when I finally got my engine going. I am fairly new to this game so this is only my suggestion. If you need verbal help I could try and help over the phone if need be. Contact me for my number. Have fun. |
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
im not sure how to adjust the throttle, thats what i need help on and maybe some to help me adjust it all together, if you wouldnt mind helping me over the phone then i could sure use the help, what is your phone number?
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
u gunna make an international call for some throttle linkage help? lol..
pull of ur filter, and have a lok at ur carb opening. then put ur throttle at full and see if it fuly opens up. and then apply the brakes, and make sure the carb doesn;t fully close, becuase u want a small gap to let air in, for it to idle, so u might need to change ur idle... possibly.. |
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
What I dont understand is I can grab the carb and pull it out, if I tighten down the low speed then the throttle will not move, it's hard to explain, I can grab the mixture control screw that the throttle linkage is hooked on to and pull it clear out of the motor or carb, I know this is not good obviously, how do I fix it without messing up my settings already? if anyone can understand what I just said.
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
maybe take some photos?, are u sure ur adjusting NEEDLES and not SCREWS, u might be unscrewing the screw that holds the carb in, or something lol..

RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
is the .18 OS CV-R a gas hog or what? I got it idling good and about 5 minutes later it's time to fill up again? there is plenty of fuel coming out the exhaust but when you throttle it blue smoke comes out, is all of this normal?
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
Hi Again, yes that is very normal but your tank should be lasting atleast 10 minutes. Is it spitting fuel out of the exhaust? Have go broken in the engine yet? Let me know. I emailed you waht to do and look for last night.
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
hey man, yah its spitting some fuel out and it will last for about 5-7 minutes, how low does it have to idle for the cluth to disengage
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
Yah so its running rich, which is not bad. You can turn down your HSN a touch and see if that helps. Is it idling ok or is it reving high? It may need to be turned down a touch as well. The clutch will only engage when you give it gas.
Do you have skype on your computer? |
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
what is skype? also will it hurt to hose of my truck or is it a bad idea?
its idling good, went through about 5 tanks today just letting it idle, need a new spur gear which i am getting friday morning before i can run it....should be good to goafter that...also, what are the best batteries to use in a radio |
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
Do not hose it down, you will ruin your electronics. I use a small paint brush and dust it off, or you could use rubbing alchohol in a spray bottle and a cloth. Do not spray it like crazy though. I do not think it is to good to get these things so wet.
Use any good quality batteries, duracell, energizer. Are you checking the temps when you let it idle, not that it should get so hot but be carefull. This should not be considered break in though. I would suggest doing a proper break in when you get your spur gear. Run the car rich even after break in too be safe. You want to see that smoke when you give it a lot of gas. Get that temp gauge as well and check it every couple of minutes. www.skype.com you download this and you can talk to anyone else who has it in the world for free. You need a headset with a mic. 10-15 bucks. That way if you needed my help again you would not have to pay for long distance again. Keep in mind that the headset will cost ya though. But it seems like you are good to go for now. Later |
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
another ?.... it's idling good almost perfect, but when i have to throttle it slowly or it will die, when i try and throttle it completely from a idle it dies, or when its at half throttle and i floor it it will sputter then take of whats going on?>
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
The screw that you had to take your tank off to get to, turn it in a touch and see if that helps. You should not have to take the tank off though. Do you have a long small screw driver? it should work on the right angle. If thats does not help put it back and turn the HSN down but just a touch. Don't forget if you are running it without a load it will not perform the same. If I understood you correctly it is not moving because of the spur gear. So that means you are reving it up in idle? The real test will be when it moves. Or even start by turning down the HSN to start and see if it changes, if not try the 1st suggestion. Keep it on the rich side.
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
It sound's good though, it's idling on it's own and when it is throttled, nice blue smoke come's out, are you saying once I get the spur on it wont run?
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
No it will run for sure. I thought you had said that it does not move now because the spur gear is shot? If that is the case then just wait till you have the gear on to run it, if you rev it too high with no load on (being on the ground) it could hurt it.
If it idles nicley then just turn down the HSN a touch a thats it. You should be good to go. |
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
when i hit my break it dies..that because i have the idle set to low?
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
no its your linkages, turn the throttle channel channel on the transmitter all the way to brake then look in the carb and turn the idle screw so the carbs open 2mm. start it it will run, next back off the idle speed till it runs right.

RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
yah but if i do that then it idles to hi and it hasnt been broken in yet
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
Leave it for now and break it in just don't use your break. That can be adjusted later.
|
RE: engine trouble!!!!!!!
well got a new spur gear installed on it and new glow plug and it has been ripping through the yard all day today, couldnt ask for a better rc truck!
