Unfortunately most hobby stores can't afford to pay enough to get people with lots of expertise (and keep them) without raising their prices so high they can't compete with the online stores - hence you get kids with little to no experience most times. Often you will get better and more knowledgeable help during nights and weekends when people who have higher paying day jobs work part time for the love of the sport (and the employee discounts). The store I use is also a Hobbytown and Justin and his staff are great to us there - (that, of course, changes with the manager and the staff at each location with any large chain).

I find that a little offensive 'had enough', i am 15 and am my hobby stores only tech guy, i am a self funded racer and work 2 jobs to do so, i organise for my hobby store to run race meets for free, and all we expect is for people to turn up and have fun, we are the only HS for a couple of hours and the way our store keeps customers is keeping them happy, and in return they drive their cars and so buy fuel parts etc. so they have fun driving their rc's and get GOOD advice ( bet that would surprise you coming out of a 15yo huh?). all our repairs are at $7.50 per 15 minutes which is about $22 per hour american. and our money is not made by taking advantage of newb's it is made by fixing peoples cars and telling them how to fix it themselves if they are confident (and that advice come for free) and then we are rewarded by people having their cars going and driving them then loyalty as they buy there parts/fuel/service from us.

Thats how it should be and thats how i (solely, i run the entire r/c section of the store) run it.

yeah had enough i do to. i have been talking with nitrodann for quite some time now and i can tell you first hand he knows his stuff he has been helping the most with my savage truck.i can also tell not all adults know it either their just there to take up space i was a shop yesterday and the adult guy didnt know jack about what he was talking about so explain that one and thats not the first time so maybe you should put alittle more thought into what your going to say before you start slamming anyone the ones that are serious about it can and will learn it heck you didnt know nothing when you stared out so whats up that i have been in it for about 6 months and i still dont know everything but i can tell you this i am very serious about the hobby so i am learning as much as i can.it takes everyone to make rc intresting true you have slaggers but remeber you were in the spot once too and if you already know your stuff then why are you asking for help for just get it and go and if you truely had enough than get out.

Unless you fall into the category I describe, you shouldn't be offended at all

The one thing you both don't have that other more seasoned humans do is the observation of how thing have changed over the years. You can look at the world through your 15-16 year old eyes and think you know everything, (believe me I know, my 11 year old thinks he knows more than me too) but I'm here to tell ya kids,, you don't. You may know enough to work on toy cars, and that's all good, but you don't know how things used to be. You haven't watched the world change like us old folks have. The same way I don't have the wisdom of someone of previous generations

It used to be you could walk into a store and be sure you're going to get good service,, that's just not the case always nowadays

And BTW
In the incident where the guy didn't want to sell me the glow plug. The guy was over 60 years old. And I wasn’t asking for help, the guy was trying to show off that he knew more than me and the other guys working in the shop. I didn’t ask for or want any advice from him. I ask for the plug and his response was “what type of engine are you using it in”. I made the mistake of being polite and telling him, that’s where I got into trouble. Sad, but I would have been better off being rude and saying “none of your business”

True, Age really has little to do with it.
It's the inexperienced people (of any age) handing out bad advice is what I have a problem with

hey let me tell you i am no kid so what if i only been on this forum 3 weeks not all experts give out good advice either so its not just teens but it is up to the people that know to teach it correctly to the younger generation and old like me so then they will have knowledge of the rc hobby.

Actually, getting good advice from a 15 year old who has been in the hobby a long time wouldn't surprise me a bit - I get my butt kicked by them at the races every week :). I'm 50 but just started racing a few years ago and I (like everyone else, I think) am still learning and expect to still be learning on my last day of racing whenever that is.

I find that too, especially when some world champion racers I've met are only 21-25 and have been racing since they were 5-6. Quite frankly, I don't care how old or how young the individual is as long as the attitude is in check and right now....

Same with me My hobbytown is a better hobby shop than tower (except the prices are about 60$ more)
I have gotten more advice from there than this forum o.o

yeah i agree with you sometimes people forget that it is a business they have to make money man not to mention if you have a lot of people at a hobby shop just ask another customer out in the parking lot they can help to the people that usually have a problem with hobbyshops 90% of the time started the attitude problem such as hey i spent a thousand dollars in here and this d584 thing doesn't work

yeah and sometimes they just dont help ya i went to the LHS to get a after market cooling for my truck the guy said i couldent the cooling head i wanted i can only get stock cooling heads witch i didnt want theres nothing rong with that hobby store its the guys that work there

First of all streak8838 i dont know about u but to me spending a $1000 dollars within a 2 week period is a big deal. As for you saying 90 percent of the problem is people like me saying i just spent a 1000 dollars here u better help me or else is def not true. I do expect decent customer service though not an attitude from the emplyees. I agree that they are in buisness to make money. It just seems to me that that is all most places are interested in and that customer service is not even a prioity. I guess i am old fashioned and believe that if u provide great customer service then people will want to come back and spend more money but i guess in todays society the all mighty dollar is all that matters. I never go into a store and say i just spent this much u better help me because i realize the customer is not always right but for the store to give an attitude because you are asking for advise is not right. Like i sated earlier i wasnt asking them to fix my car just for advise. I still think if hobby shops gave better customer service that the R/C hobby would be much more popular then it is. Well i am done ranting for now
