Need clarification on article in January issue

Nice magazine.

I have a question regarding hte article David Baker wrote in the January 2006 issue on painting a body.

On page 160 in step 12, it shows you peeling a layer of what I assume is FasMask off the OUTSIDE of the body. But, you never mention when you would put those couple of coats ON. Should that have been an extra step in between Step 4 and Step 5?

Thanks!

That is the overspray film that is being removed from the outside and not Fasmask. Most bodies will come with this thin layer of film already protecting the outside of the body from paint overspray. It is to be removed only after painting is complete. Sorry for the confusion.

If you happen to get a body that does not have overspray film then you can use Glad Press N Seal plastic wrap like you might find in your kitchen for wrapping food. Smooth the Glad wrap onto the outside of your body and you have instant overspray protection.

You can also use LMF (liquid masking film) like Fasmask or Bob Dively, by spraying or brushing on the outside to make your own overspray film.
