T-MAXX Engine Replacement
Alright the new 2.5 can make it go over 40mph, but I was just at a RC car shop today and they had one with a .21 engine in it. The engine was an O.S.(don't know the model). The guy said that it could probably get up to 60mph. If you have a new T-MAXX with a .21 engine in it could you please tell me if this is true or not. I don't want to waste my money on converting it and then find out that it won't go faster.

It will go faster and have alot more power. But uncontrolled power is just power wasted.
I want to know what size the new 2.5 T-Maxx motor is? The article I read said the Megatech M-16 has a bigger displacement?2.6.It is a 16 size engine. What size is the new TRX2.5? Is it just a souped up 15? Lettuce know what ya'll think. BNZ' |

it's possible, but top end speed does not lie in engine output, it lies in tuning the powerband for optimal RPM's, gearing, and terrain. If you want 60mph, it's possible .. but first off you need a tuned pipe that is for higher RPM, like a Dynamite for example.. also, you need to gear high like 22/66 .. and run on flat open terrain like a parking lot .. go to http://www.maxxskunkworks.com .. on there they have a gearing ratio chart to help you figure out speeds..
Don't waste your money on the .21 .. you'll get more torque, but not necessarily the speed.. |

I agree.I had the Dynamite pipe on my Kyosho Ultima St gt(it came w/ it).
Then I put it on the AE.15 in my RC10GT . It screams but alot quieter. Alot more controlled power. But still responsive. My .15 size engines do at least 35-40. So a .21 set up right would do 50-60 easilly. |

50 to 60 mph is possible but you need to realize that when you have a .15 and a .21 the rpm's are going to be about the same so the only way to get more speed is with gearing. When you gear for more speed you will end up burning up the clutch shoes. You will have more power out of a .21 every time and with the same gearing as a .15 the .21 will spank it every time.
The new Tmaxx is the same drivetrain as the old Tmaxx. The new 2.5 engine turns about 40,000 rpm's most other engines on the market today will turn around 30 to 35,000 rpm's that is how the new Tmaxx is so much faster than the old one. Anyway it will not go faster with the Tmaxx drivetrain. |

The 2.5 is just a souped up .15 engine.

keep the trx 2.5 engine. Ive heard great things about it, and i think the 60mph thing is BS....well its possible but u gotta to a lotta crap to it like figure out gearing ratios..blah blah blah... don't waste your money

a lot of times you will lose top end with a .21 because they normally (less than 300 bucks) do not have the rpm range of a .15. And a 2.5 is just the .15's displacement in CC's instead of cubic inches. Just a marketing plow. Like TMAXX medic said, it is all in the gearing and a tmaxx also has the aerodynamics of a brick wall so it would not be easy either.

T-MAXX Engine Replacement
Well the guy had spent over $3200 on it and had almost all aluminum parts(a-arms,supension,chassis).
Would that allow it to go faster. Suspension was the SuperMaxx suspension kit for a total cost of $500. Engine was O.S. |
T-MAXX Engine Replacement
Aluminum parts won't make a bit of difference in speed. If anything they will make it slower because of the weight gain. The only thing that will make your truck go faster is the engine and drive train. A .21 might make it go 60, if you can get gears to gear it high enough. With the stock gearing a .21 won't make any difference in top speed, but it has a lot more power to allow you to gear it up.

The guy spending $3200 on his tmaxx. All I can say is WOW. I guess he is not planning on racing it. Where is the fun!
As others mentioned, 2.5 is displacement and equates to .15 engine. 2.11cc = .12; 2.5cc = .15; 3.5cc = .21 |
T-MAXX Engine Replacement
That's where I'm at.
Starting to lose focus. And getting banal about *****. Aluminum makes it stiff though. Just run it,run it fast, and run often!!!! BNZ' |
T-MAXX Engine Replacement
It's not just one guy it is the whole store working on it.
I went there today and they said that they are waiting on a custom transmission for it. |

Sounds like a case of T-Maxx fever for sure. Nice Thread, very informative.
What do you think... for a newbie coming into the hobby, is the T-Maxx a good begginer? It sure looks like a lot of fun! |
hmmm
too many people are worried about "top" speed..... maybe its just me but it matters most on how fast it gets up there....guess it just depends on what you would like to do with the maxx, i would say 40 is enough, as long as it gets there in about 2.3 sec lol!!
