Dying Wheels
OK, I decided that I want to dye my Revo's wheels. I know the basic procedure:
Boil water Add RIT Dye Add parts Take parts out once in a while What I don't know is how much RIT Dye to use? I will be using black if that means anything. Also what is something good to put the wheels in to let them soak? I don't know if I have something big enough to fit all 4. The reason I want to dye all 4 at once is so none of them end up with a different shade. Thanks for any help in advance. |
RE: Dying Wheels
well usually how much die you put in dictates how dark and deep the colour is. with black you cant go wrong, unless it turns out grey, which then you can just add more. so just dump some in i guess then see how it goes. simply because black is black you cant really mess up

RE: Dying Wheels
where do you get this dye from?

RE: Dying Wheels
i use the whole package or bottle. if the wheels still look purple when you check the let them sit in the dye longer. also the water should just be simmering while the parts are in, not still boiling. onluy use enough water to cover the parts, and if you have any you can use a cloths hanger or zip-ties to make handles on the parts for easy removal.

RE: Dying Wheels
Is it alright if I use a container like [link=http://www.craftsetc.com/Storage/ProductImages/472712.jpg]THIS[/link] or [link=http://images.orgill.com/200x200/6108716.JPG]THIS[/link] to dye the wheels in?

RE: Dying Wheels
Anyone? Can I use a container like the one I showed in my previous post? I am getting ready to dye my wheels.

RE: Dying Wheels
I'd use a small pot, as you'll need to bring the dye to a BOIL, which wouldnt be good in a plastic container like the one your planning.
A pot shouldnt be that expensive. You may be able to find something at the goodwill / DAV. DO NOT use your mother's favorite soup pan. The rit Dye will NOT come out. |
RE: Dying Wheels
I would think a cheap enamled or stainless steel pot would be be ok as long as it is large enough. Just be sure you plan on being the only one using it. Also remember this stuff stains things REAL bad.
Thanks Dudelive |
RE: Dying Wheels
I had nothing else to use but the contanier I had. So I used the container and the wheels turned out SWEET!!! I should have done this a long time ago.
