How to get my new car to start
 

Hi, I have a Kyosho pureten GP Alpha 2/3 but am having trouble getting it to run properly. I can get the engine to start but it goes mad and the wheels go round without me doing anything.

What should i do to get this to run properly as ive had the car for over a month and not been able to use it.

It sounds as if your idle is to high, Either turn down the throottle trim on the transmitter or try and take a turn or two out of the idle needle. Your LSN could be lean and you may need to richen it up a little. Check those and you should be good if not get back.

well thanks for the surgestions and that kind of worked but the car is now so slow. Any ideas?

Also is there anyone on here from Glasgow?

If you adjusted the HSN, then it could be too rich

oh sorry you are asking, what a HSN is, the high speed needle, its located in the brass sleeve, turn it in 2 turns from flush, Flush is level with the edge of the brass sleeve, it might need three

make sure that when you are at full speed, there is some light blue smoke coming out of the exhuast

is that if its off the floor, because, mine spin when off the floor but once one the floor there isnt enough power to push it, s othey do not spin (are you gettin me???) im not an expert tuner, so i hope ive helped a bit

well umm

are the servos working?? try to move all the servos around using the transmitter with the engine off make sure nothing is stickin the barrel should only be open 1mm at 0 throttle input
have you charged the batteries and if theyre dry cell are you sure theyre good sounds like you have something other than a tuning issue find the manual on the kyosho site
OR call them directly and they will email you the manual for it reset all to factory set the idle as mentioned above with the barrel set to 1mm and work from there also check the clutch shoes if the springs are bad they will engage all the time and cause this same issue

hehe i had that car to a kyosho alpha 3 nitro car with a GX15. Its a ok starter car but its nothin special. The engine is very picky. Now the engine only has 1 adjustment screw which is the HSN and of course it has a idle screw to. What i would sugest is turn your radio on and take the filter off, this is with the engine not started.

Now adjust the idle screw so there is only a 1mm gap or close to that. That should fix the idle problem also i found that the clutch spring is very loose and dosnt hold the shoes back under low revs so if u can get another clutch spring to help with this.

If this dosnt work then it may be your linkages set incorrectly, the linkages from the throttle servo opposite the engine. U may of bumped the throttle trim on the transmitter and it may be holding the carb open and not enabling u to close the carb or hit the brakes Check all these out and if it dosnt help then take a pic of the carb opening with the power on the car and transmitter so we can see if it is the linkages keeping the carb open.

Yeah, I had that same engine and found it very hard to get to idle. Does the carburettor come with a low speed needle? No? Didn't think so. The factory setting is crap. I now have the GSR version which does have a LSN. And its so much easier to drive, idles perfectly too. If you do have a LSN, tighten it (lightly!) and then open it about 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 turns. It will depend on air temperature and other conditions as to what setting is required. I also recomment about 1 1/2 turns for the HSN.

The GS is a great engine, with a really sucky carburettor.
