Setting up an old engine.

I have a VERY old mardave stock car that was bought 15 yrs ago from a friend who never managed to get it running.

About a week ago, I found it in a box at the back of the garage, having not used it for more than an hour after buying it.

Thought I'd see if I could figure out why the engine never ran, so I stripped it and the carb apart. To cut a long story short, 2 parts were obviously missing from the carb, including a rubber seal, and the adjuster had been put together backwards!

The engine itself looks pristine inside (doubt it had more than the 1 hour use I gave it!) so I've now put it back together. Question is, how do I set it up from scratch? is there a set procedure. If its any help the engine is an HGK 21.

Also, if anyone out there knows of a source of parts for the car, its got no wheels and tyres (don't ask!) and the clutch is a "little damaged"!!

Cheers

My suggestion would be to take it to the LHS. You might be surprised how helpful those people can be. A lot of times they will help you out so youll come back and probably not even charge you for anything but parts. If its an older guy thats owned the shop for a while youll probably get a big ole smile from him when he looks at it. Its kinda hard to give any advice on something like that without actually looking at it. My guess for the needles would be flush for the lowend and 4 to 5 turns out on the high end. It sound like that engine might not have been run at all so you will need to break-in the engne by running it rich.
