I need help!
 

Hey there guys, I just recieved my new R/C Tank in the mail today. Man it sure looks great, just sitting there...with no power.

My problem being this tank is from america while I am in australia! Sure enough, using my internation powerplugconversion tool that doesn't actually convert AC power it just lets you plug it in to the wall I fried my Battery charger.

Here are its specs;

AC power input: 110v 60Hz (american standard)
DC output: 7.2v 400mah

and the Ni-cd battery is a 7.2v 1700mAh.

Now, I dont know much about batterys - but I have an australian style MODEM(as-in computer) power block with these specs;

AC power imput: 240v - 50Hz (australian standard)
DC output: 7.5v 1000mAh


What I am getting at, is can I safely charge the battery using the alternate australian power block? Or will it just destroy the battery? (I cant afford that)

I don't see why not. Did it say to only charger it with 110 current only? And if you have the wall charger with the Ausi plugs you should be okay.

Well, its not like the battery is hit with 110v directly man. I need to know if something with a slightly higher voltage and mAh output (well, alot higher mAh output) is gonna be harmfull to my battery. I'm using a different charger than the one the tank came with....because that one exploded after recieving 240V from an australian power outlet.

240v is the power going through out houses, as opposed to 110v in American homes. [:o]

Yes but if the charger as your kind of plug then it's made for your kinda current and it should not be a problem that I can think of. But keep asking around somebody knows what you are talking about .Good luck let me know what happens. Okay?

I'm not worried about the charger/powerblock itself - I know that wont explode its designed for a 240v current :)

It's the battery I'm worried about [X(]

It should be no problem just make sure the battery does not get hot, they do get warm that's okay but hot is not okay. So I would give it a try I don't see a problem. Is this just a plug in the wall charger you know the black ones with one cord? If so then it only is a trickle charger and it shoud not be a problem. So go for it.

Ok, thanks for the help so far man :)

I tried a 12v charger with an output of 1300mAh - in otherwords I tried to charge my battery 100% within an hour using some crap I jury-rigged.

Some cords melted and needless to say it didn't work...FEAR NOT THOUGH, because the battery was intact! A quick drive to my local tv-shop and I came home with a multi-voltage charger.

it's now sitting on 7.5V at 500mAh and "trickle" charging slightly faster than it would be with the original plug it came with. It seems everything is OK now and the tank will be workin in no time. :D
