Engine problem.. piston wont move :(
 

Well heck.. Remember.. I opened the rossi.. and put it back.. but then heck I dont think I put it back right.. and now the head wont move.. other than taking the whole thing apart is there something I can do?

i haddthe same questiosn as you on an old engine...id never taken one apart before so i was worried even though it wasnt a $130 engine like yours ........i came to the conclusion that , in mycase, screw it ill take it apart to see whats in there.....ive always been a guy to do that kinda stuff.......your case is a bit different since its a brand new engine and you are worried you'll screw it up.....look at it this way .....sooner or later your gonna have to rebuild it......why not now, since your at the cross road of taking it apart or not, go for it. you'll know exactly what you have and you'll be one up on the rebuild.........now if your still scared someone with experience in that engine will tell you what happened on why it wont move.

Ram....Are you referring to the cylinder having been removed?

I thought the only item that you removed was the cylinder? If that is the case.....and you simply put it back on.....and bolted it on using the cross pattern for tightening the screws....then it should be OK. As long as the cylinder does not have marks that need to line up with the engine case....you should be alright.

Remember...it's a new engine....and if the piston is at TDC (top dead center) it's going to have resistance due to the tight fit of the piston/sleeve.

well.. the piston wont move.. its like its stuck against the sleeve.

I'm gonna go home and try to put the flywheel on and turn the shaft so I can get the head to move.. it should give me more leverage.. I'm also gonna put a few drops of wd40 in there

I really dont wanna damage the piston or scratch the sleeve! please let me know if this is ok!

ITs a brand new Rossi R125 21 back magic.

Unused.. its never seen fuel. I opened it up.. and put it back and now it wont move.. I dont think I did but the guy at my LHS said maybe I put it in backwards?

Heat er up with the hair dryer and she will roll on out for ya...Never force it you will score the sleeve.

I thought you might be taking about the piston, Somehow I didnt even look at the topic...lol

Pull off the back plate and look at the piston to make sure you didnt damge it! The backplate has a machined spot on the inside edge and that is a releif for the piston so put the notch up and make sure the piston is at top dead center when you install the back plate.

oh ****.. I oiled the heck out of it and I turne er thru a few cycles.. I examined the sleeve. I really dont think it scored it at all.. The first time it made a slight horrible noise.. :( AHH!! second time it went through perfectly.
Your right I may have slighty scored it.. but I couldnt see anything. it was perfectly shiny.. I looked at it from all anges.

Hey guys Check this..

I found out the the engine isnt really stuck. the sleeve is just REALLY TIGHT towards the top!
This makes sense.. this is where most of the action takes place.. so it looks like they actually tapered the sleeve so the top is even tighter!
So I thought it was stuck.. I pretty much soaked the thing in machine oil and hand cranked it through a few cycles.. its smooth now, but still tight as hell!
This thing is gonna need one hell of a break-in! I originally thought this engine had a ceramic head.. it does not!
Anyway.. Thanks for your help! now I'm sorta comfortable having the engines opened :)

Oh.. important...
They manual says that I should ADD a shim when the temperature heats up. I'm just gonna do it now. I sorta damaged the old brass shim (nor really but heck why not replace it). I'm gonna change it and also add another one.
Hmm.. or I could get smart and add one thats twice as thick :)
The one in there right now is VERY thin! its like paper..
How are these things measured?
