Engine shut-off

Does it hurt your engine if you shut it off by flipping the car or is cutting the air supply a better idea?

RE: Engine shut-off

Pinching the fuel line, hitting the flywheel wit your shoe, and putting your finger over the pipe are all good ways!

RE: Engine shut-off

why is cutting off the fuel supply not a good way to shut off the engine???

That's Pinching the fuel line...

Remove air filter and put some dirt in the carb. That works but gets expensive in the long run. :D

This is obvioulsy a joke.

Pinching the fuel line is good. I usually flug the exhaust or put my foot on the flywheel.

lol, I thought you guys were joking about hitting the flywheel with your shoe (i got the carb joke though). But if you are sure that pinching the fuel line is not a joke than that’s what ill do. :D

I guess engines can take more abuse than i thought. good to know! i have been scared s***less with it lately

The foot on the flywheel is not a joke.

As long as the engine is at idle speed, you can just put your finger on the flywheel to stop it. But if its racing out of control use your foot.

I bet nobody can shut off my Savage or T-Maxx by putting their toe on the flywheel.

A stick will do it though.

I just put my finger over the pipe... Very easy to do and affective.

if your thoumb is clean and your body is off, just pop off the air filter and cover teh hole. i found it was the fastest next to foot to flywheel trick.

There is always a risk of getting dirt in the engine, when the air filter is off...

Today i have learned that it takes about 2 seconds for the engine to shut off if you pinch the fuel line. Ill try blocking the exhuast tomorrow.

RE: Engine shut-off

dont bother with the fuel line thing, because if your engine is screaming its little head off its no good because you have to get the body off etc. if you put your foot on the fly wheel or the exaust it will cut off no problem:D

BTW: be carefull when your doing the fly wheel thing because once when i was about to do it i lifted the car on its side and all this oil and fuel residue blew into my face lucky none of it went into my eyes[:'(]:)

RE: Engine shut-off

I try to make it a habit to shut off all my nitro engines by blocking the exhaust.
I do that for one reason. In case of a runaway engine. When that engine is going full bore and screaming like a banshie it's easy to get excited and flustered and start fumbling around what ever vehicle is screaming at you. The exhaust is easily accessable and blockable on nearly all nitro engines - the only exceptions I can think of are marine outboard engines. So, as long as I habitually reach for the exhaust it's what I'll go for in an emergency. This method works with cars, trucks, boats, planes (I don't know about helis since I don't have one in nitro) without having to worry about removing the body, finding a flywheel or fuel line.

To answer your original question though, No pinching the fuel line will not hurt your engine and is actually reccomended by several manufacturers. Blocking the air supply will kill the engine but you take a very big risk of getting debris down the carb and I can tell you from personal experence (filter poped off one day) getting junk in the carb makes for a bad day.
