if the top of your piston in your engine is black does that mean u ran the engine to lean?

i thoguth deposits mean it was running too rich

No a big hole in the top of your piston means its running lean:D
A thick layer of crud is due to running rich or leaving fuel in your engine [&o]

you should run rich but let your engine run dry,until theres no fuel at all and the car stops becuse of it. it keeps your engine lubed but it also gets rid of unwanted left over gunk in there.:D

When you run it out of fuel.. Try to start it again until it won't start anymore; That gets every thing out.
