200 MPH +++
"This is Fierce Nitro RC Action! These are the world's fastest model cars with top speeds well over 200 mph. These tether cars are the forefathers of radio control cars, traveling around a track that's over 200 feet in a little more than six-tenths of a second. It equals roughly 90 Gs of lateral acceleration, pulling well over 600 pounds of tension on the wire that guides these missiles."
I found this and thought I would share it. Its pretty cool but would get old quick:) http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...45412975681268 |

RE: 200 MPH +++
How is it fake?
|
RE: 200 MPH +++
its a teather car, its not fake. Notice how they take AGES to spool up? Its because basically the motor is connected to the rear wheels directly, thats how they get these amassive speeds, no there not remote control
The thing people think is a bird is a butterfly in the air. Its very real |
RE: 200 MPH +++
Yeh now that i think about it, it does seem real, its just ive never heard or seen (other than that clip) anything about tether cars.[&:]

RE: 200 MPH +++
It's definitely real. Tether cars have been around for longer than most people on this forum have been alive. They're awesome little machines, but it seems as though they've all but disappeared (along with most slot car tracks).
http://www.speedmodelcar.com/images/UV-25.jpg Tether car racing began in the late 1930's when some people decided to put a model airplane engine on a board with four wheels. Within a year there was racing of beautifully built cars that resembled the oval track cars of the period. Engines especially designed for cars soon pushed the speeds to over 100 miles per hour. By the early 1950's they were going over 150 mph using the legendary Dooling 61 engine in a car that had ceased to look like anything on a big car track. Today they are going over 200 mph with Italian made engines in cars that look more like a bullet with the wheels inside the slim body. International competition is held with cars in five different classes depending upon engine size. The classes are 1 - 1.5cc (.09 cu in), 2 - 2.5cc (.15 cu in), 3 - 3.5cc (.21 cu in), 4 - 5cc (.29 cu in) and 5 - 10cc (.61 cu in). Running on an methanol - castor oil (80:20) fuel and using tuned exhaust pipes the engines peak out at over 44,000 rpm in the smallest class. The cars run on a special circular track held to the center post by a wire tether. The person running the car stays on the outside of the track and the helper in the center assists the car off the line and stabilizes it until it reaches about 80 mph and then steps onto a small platform on the center pole until the car is shut off at the end of the run. The cars and the engines are the most sophisticated of all the modeling hobbies. Because of the high speeds, the tracks are also sophisticated with a very flat running surface and extremely strong center post. http://www.speedmodelcar.com/aboutspeedcars.htm |

It's not a bird it's an insect. If you want proof the video isn't sped up just watch the flag.

RE: 200 MPH +++
LOL I can't believe people still insist this is fake. It's real, people have been running these things forever and they do go that fast.
Here are some videos for the skeptics, i'm sure they're all fake right? :eek: http://www.newsday.com/features/prin...homepage-promo http://www.amrca.com/images/amrcanat.mov http://www.amrca.com/images/tethcars.wmv |
