another question from me
 

hey guys

another question from me:eek: well I headed out tonight to continue to break in my engine and have run into a small problem/

The Problem is that I start the engine and leave the glow plug on for about 5 to 10 seconds after the engine has fired and let it idle for a second but when I give it throttle the engine dies, but when I leave the glow plug on it will rev and brake and idle fine but soon as the glow igniter comes off it dies. Would this be because the engine isnt hot enough? its only 9C ( 48F ) outside? or is this a needle setting problem? also Im running very rich.

again Im new and still trying to learn[&:] I alos tried adjusting the throttle trim on the radio ( to open the carb more ) but this causes the wheel to turn when idleing. Im sure that you guys out there will know whats going on.

again sorry for all these posts, but I guess theres no such thing as a stupid question

When you're breaking in an engine with an extremely rich carburetor setting, you need to leave the glow igniter on the motor (otherwise it will stall). It sounds like you're extremely rich and can lean in your needle settings a little. Remember to pay attention to your engine temperatures during break-in. You don't want to run to cold or too hot. I try and stay between 140 and 200 degrees farenheit (others will have different opinions on appropriate temps for break-in but this has worked well for me on over 40 of my engines and counting).

thanks for the help, I never knew that I was to keep the glow igniter on when extremely rich? you know these canadian falls ( can be quite cold ) how long should I keep it on? also how long should I keep the igniter on normally when starting a engine?

I would say when the engine is cold no longer then a min or two. After you get yyour engine running good and its tuned i usually will drive a couple ft away and trun around thern take it off maybe like 30 seconds or so thern take the igniator off. When its warm i take it off as soon as it starts.

Thanks for the tip Nick, I had the car running great today ( until my glow igniter died ) I left the glow igniter on a for a minute and ran for a minute or two until the engine was warm enough to remove it then it ran just fine. it did stall on me a couple of times I assume thats just because it was cold out and kinda still rich. The temp was about 51F and there was a cold breeze so that didnt help. how do thses guys run there trucks in the winter[&:]? I thought I read somewhere that some people actually warm there enfines first with a blow dryer or heat gun?

NO!!! During break in the reacher the better...so leaving the igniter on is a better idea.

Its okay, I ran about 3 to 4 tanks very rich before I startred to lean it out a bit. the reason it wasnt starting is that its starting to get quite cool here because with the igniter on it, it started and ran fine but then I let it idle for a minute before I gave it some throttle. Even after running it the engine wasnt all that hot.
