Redcat?
 

Just trying to figure out what the general sentiment towards their cars and trucks is around here. Half the members seem to be "forum support" or whatever, and redcat seems to have some deepy connection to RCU so those members go around preaching as if the vehicles are made in heaven, and everyone else seems to think theyre cheap crap. I imagine the truth is somewhere in between. Does anyone, who is not affiliated with redcat, have something to say? And dont point me to the RCU reviews since they always say the same things about every vehicle by every company.

they are good entry level cars. They seem to use a cheap quality plastic, especially at the wheels. They are great beginner trucks or bashers, especially the nitros b/c they have the engine replacement program. For their price, they cannot be beat, but sometimes parts are hard to come by. Redcat seems to be getting more popular now and they have some good and some bad models

Im no affiliated but I own one, And i think there great, just as good as a HPI or Losi, its just that they haven't got their name out, everyone has to start somewhere right? ....... and parts are not had to get at all, tons of em, hop-ups, even a guy who makes billet for them. and cheap plastics? do you own one of these cars?

I bought the Shockwave a while back, $99 RTR nitro buggy. It was really good for the price. Its built well enough, drives fine. Cant complain at that price. Hop ups are a bit hard to come by but Redcat offers any replacements you might need and if you do some research you'll find tons of other parts that can work.

I've owned tons of RCs, and I definitely would say Redcat is up to snuff with Losi, HPI, Associated, etc, but theyre also a lot cheaper. For the price you cant really go wrong, at least with their cheaper models.

Their more expensive models are fine too I'm sure, but at those price points you might want to consider better known vehicles from brands such as the ones I mentioned, if only for the amazing amount of hop ups around.

But yeah its true, there is a very odd dynamic between RCU and Redcat.

when I said cheap plastic, I was refering to the wheels. My friend had one and seem to always be breaking wheels. Coulda just been him though. I'm acutally thinking about picking one up to try em out and maybe keep it for collectings sake b/c I have a feeling they are going to get real popular just like traxxas did.

Personally I dont think they would become that popular, theyre really just an American importer buying Himoto cars, sometimes with better engines. These cars have been around for years, and can generally be found cheaper elsewhere (granted, with cheaper engines sometimes).

trust me, they are going to make a name for them selves, and im glad you are seeing that, need more people like you with this kinda atittude towards this topic, and yes i will agree those stupid rims are cheap, but all the other plastic is tuff. thats why im buying these.

From another standpoint, if they keep their pricing as competitive as it is, that might really help them.

yup, I picked my tornado BB off the "auction site" for 185$ Flat, with starter kit and a extra unpainted body, if i knew there was a redcat.ca at the time i would have just got ti there.

I'm not very comfortable with nitro, but can't believe the prices of these things...they even have freakin aluminum! Granted, I haven't ever driven one or messed with the electronics, I doubt they aren't very good at that price.

I'm looking into getting the tornado epx...I wonder how tough the diffs are? Anyone know if any popular brands wheels will work without an adapter?

Aluminum isnt nearly as expensive as this hobby would make it seem, In my industry we work with all kinds of billet parts, and none of them are gouged like RC parts are.

Now your going to want to go to the Redcat Forums, but there is alot of major brand parts that will fit them, i know the price makes them sound very cheap but its really the only why they can compete right now.

They are great cars as far as their 1/8th scales are. I have a monsoon and hurricane and they take all the abuse I throw at it and holds up just as good as my mantis, 8ight, and Hyper ST PRO. My Redcat Monsoon is actually my favorite to drive out of all of them. I do agree about the wheels though. Everything else is on par with much more expensive brands out there.

redcat is a growing company and they are making a name for themself. i have a tornado bb and i like it just as much as my firestorm. They are very good the only thing i replaced was the throttle servo becuase it glitched making me crash into a tree and my friends t-maxx. Other than that i like my redcat. they are good company and you can get al the parts from http://www.clermontmotorsports.com

This is why i started making parts for redcat and himoto. Me and several friends all bought these brands and all broke within first few tanks....... (broke mine in first quarter tank)
We all happen to break similar parts aswell..... rims, cheap rear plastic wheel mounts and steering components. Rest of the car seems great for the price!!
Local hobby shop laughed at me when i brought my truck in looking for parts........He said go find them online!! or drive over it with your truck in parking lot! (yeah ok buddy)
I will post some video's of us beating the modded buggies and trucks now with our upgrades...... they are unbreakable so far.
