RE: Your First RC
how do u like onroad?
|
RE: Your First RC
only thing good about it is drifting, but that gets old when you go through a $20 set of tires in 15 minutes, and being a .28 putting tape on the tires lasts about 2 minutes, and PVC just slides all over the place, no fun at all, gotta use rubber tires with all the power.

RE: Your First RC
A Tamiya Hornet (circa 1987) that my poor mechanically not so inclined dad built for me for Christmas. He used the wrong glue and I drove the tires right off of it the first run.
I still remember how happy I was that Christmas morning. |

In 1987 I bought a Cox Turbo Scorpion and a Futaba Attack radio with money I made from mowing lawns. I upgraded it with a Futaba electronic speed control and Trinity Gold motor. It was pretty fast. The local hobby shop in Babylon, NY used to hold races on a little league baseball field.

RE: Your First RC
ORIGINAL: Dale Gribble My first truck, which I coincidentally recently bought a nib of- http://www.intergate.com/~rpurcell/r.../big_bear1.JPG Very cool I have not seen that box in 20 some odd years. The Mauri Big Bear was my first hobby grade RC, but they weren't much better than the syuff you can buy at Wal Mart now except you could fix them if you broke something. My second was a Mauri Ninja and third was a Tamiya Thunder Shot. |
RE: Your First RC
Tamiya Rough Rider sand rail, circa ~1982 w/a Futaba 2ch 2stick radio (wheel based radios were still pretty new and way more $$). Broke & replaced/upgraded most of it. Ordered from Tower Hobbies when you had to *call them on the phone or send them an order form in the mail*. Sold it to buy oversized pistons and jugs for my Volkswagen engine. BTW my computer then ran CPM, had 128K RAM, no hard drive and for that time, pretty much rocked.
