What to get....?
Hey there, at the moment i have an HSP 1/10 tyranno.....pretty crappy quality truck.
I want to get something else probably a 1/8 scale nitro off road 4WD... My first choice would be a monster truck but i want one a little faster than 40mph, the problem is most monster trucks are only around 40mph. (I want a fast one because it will be used on grass a lot and the the grass just soaks up all the speed) So if there isnt a monster truck with more speed then ill be happy with a truggy or something along those lines. I dont really know my price range at the moment because i just want to get an idea of whats out there. I dont know if ive missed anything, let me know if i have. I want you guys to let me know of what you think would be suitable for me, just throw some ideas out there......people with experience to help me out in my decision. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks, Daniel |
RE: What to get....?
Check out the Traxxas Revo 3.3 or the Losi LST2. Both are pretty zippy, durable, 4x4, and have tons of parts that are easily available.
EDIT: Those are by no means the only good choices, just what popped into my head. |
RE: What to get....?
i would love to get something like that but i dont want to spend that much. maybe in the 400-450 range.
Ive been looking into the HSP range, they seem to have some decent trucks for the price, its just very hard finding info on them, i cant fin it anywhere. Thanks, Daniel |
RE: What to get....?
Look at the hpi savage x 4.6 it has enough power to bash crazy and really durable
|
RE: What to get....?
and the savage x 4.6 rtr goes for about $429.99 the savage x ss 4.6 goes for $369.99-399.99 (needs electronics)

RE: What to get....?
For the price range you said, check out the HPI Savage and the Associated Monster GT. Both are far better than HSP/Redcat, and parts are readily available.

RE: What to get....?
nah, there good RC's I own a couple, parts are easy to get... but your choice

RE: What to get....?
Ok thanks for all the help guys, i guess im looking at either the redcat monsoon, the redcat avalanche or the monster GT.
I wont be racing, just playing around with buddies.....bit of bashing. What i dont understand though is the monsoon has a gear ratio of 17.5:1, the avalanche has a gear ratio of 17.7:1........but on the team associated website it said the Monster GT has a 2-speed gear box with an "internal gear ratio" of 3.31:1. Thats a huge difference of gear ratio. Why is this, does it have something to do with the fact that its a 2-speed gearbox???....I dont quite understand. Can someone please explain? Thanks a lot, Daniel |
RE: What to get....?
I say avalanche.
|
RE: What to get....?
I'd go with the Monster GT. It's going to be better quality and easier to find parts for than these Chinese cars like the Redcats and such.
|
RE: What to get....?
yeah i appreciate your opinion but can someone explain the gear ratio differences. all the team associated website said was that it had an internal gear ratio of 3.31:1........If its a 2 speed gearbox shouldn't there be two ratio's?????
And i dont quite understand what they mean by "internal" gear ratio. Also, do the redcat cars have reverse??? Thanks, Daniel |
RE: What to get....?
no, they dont, no nitro's do really, a few I think...go on over to the Redcat forum on here.. get all the answers you want over there..dont listen to people who say their crappy not durable and hard to find parts.. their very durable, great fun and EASY to find parts

RE: What to get....?
I'm not positive, but it may reffer to the gear ratio of the front and rear transfer cases. It should be one of the fixed ratios inside a gearbox. Let me take a look at some schematics.

RE: What to get....?
hey ya...... sure man.. just keep it to yourself alright?
|
RE: What to get....?
From what I can tell by looking at thier online schematics, it would seem that the 3.31:1 rear ratio is with the front and rear gearboxes. The center gearbox contains the gears for shifting and the outside pinion and spur gears which can be changed.

RE: What to get....?
Someone told me what the gear ratios were from a manual:
"the manual shows 26.43:1 for 1st and 18.28:1 for 2nd" Just what i wanted to see. I think this means that its now between the avalanche and monsoon. This gearing is just a bit too slow and i would rather a one speed gearbox without the reverse feature. I still cant decide to whether get the monsoon or avalanche.............arghhhhh its soo annoying. Thanks for the help, Daniel |
RE: What to get....?
I dont mind the truggy look, but for bashing and jumping around ill really suggest the Avalanche, Thats all I do with my Tornado BB and it holds up great
|
RE: What to get....?
You're dismissing the monster GT, arguably one of the best budget MTs on the market soley on the basis of internal gear ratios?
|
RE: What to get....?
You have to consider other things like the engine RPM and tire size too. Those gear ratios make it sound slow, but it runs in the range of the other trucks in that class.
Like other people have suggested, you might look into a Savage X as well. I think the best advise I can give you at the moment, though, is to just take your time and think about it. Don't rush into something without thinking it over for a bit. You might want to ask around the monster truck forums too, to see what other people have and like. |
RE: What to get....?
people want what they want :D
|
RE: What to get....?
Im not ruling out the monster GT just because of the gear ratio, its also price, availability for me (australia), i dont want reverse.
Let me just check something, a car with bigger wheels will go faster if its against a different car with the same engine..gear ratio etc but smaller wheels? Thanks, Daniel |
