jato gear problem
Hey everyone i am very new to the RC world, i just got a jato (sorry im at work and cant think what size engine i think 3.3 i have only had it for 3 days) for some reason the large plastic gear keeps getting the teeth destroyed i purchased a new one and adjusted the motor using someones "sheet of paper" idea and it still broke after about 2 minutes. I have yet to even hit it full throttle as im only on my second tank of the break in. if you can please any advise is good advise i dont want to quit the hole RC thing but im not having as much fun as i thought i would .
Thanks everyone Daniel |
RE: jato gear problem
Is the engine tightened down???? If not then the engine will move back and will tear the teeth up, also if the spur gear and bell gear are to tight this will also cause it to strip. The paper idea works well, just make sure that there is no binding between the two gears. Make sure that the two gears are able to move freely with eachother. Hope this helps, nd stay with it. There a ton of fun, your just having a bad experience so far but hang in there.

RE: jato gear problem
ok so the paper thing works cause i felt a little dumb but thats good. When i tightened the motor i did so fairly hard and the gears seemed to be free spinning with little effort i think i may have incorrectly installed the gear is there a trick? and is this a common problem or can i like buy a metal one or something?

What did you mean by a little effort? The gears/ bell & spur should spin freely. There should be a small amount of play between the gears when they are set correct, that is why you did the paper trick but you can still over tighten them. I've done it so many times that I don't use paper to set the gear spacing any more. |
RE: jato gear problem
WELL I WENT OUT AND GOT A SET OF METAL GEARS AND COMPLETED MY THIRD TANK IN THE BREAK IN. IS THERE ANY DOWN FALL TO PUTTING THE METAL GEARS IM AFRAID IF IT NEEDED THEM IT WOULD HAVE CAME WITH THEM.ALSO I BOUGHT A NEW ALUMINUM MUFFLER IS IT OK TO PUT IT ON DURING THE BREAK IN?
