Engine Problems..
 

Today I ran my Ofna Force engine (.28) for the second time and I have ran into some major problems.
I didn't break it in right (couldn't wait:)) and after about a quart of fuel I guess it couldn't handle whatever was stressing it and the bottom of the connection rod broke causing other components to suffer.

Any way I am in the middle of disassembling and cleaning my now busted engine. My question is how do I remove the sleeve? I have done this many times be for but this time it seems to be stuck. It won't budge no matter what I have tried. So I was hopping there is some trick out there that will get it out. Every thing is disassembled except the crankshaft, piston, and connecting rod (can't get them out with out the sleeve). Could it be stuck because the engine is fairly new and it hasn't loosened up (I have know idea)? If you need any more info just ask.

Try heating up the outside of the motor somehow and before the sleeve gets to hot try and get it out, sounds like the sleeve seized it's self to the motor.
Edit: or maybe soak it in some kinda penetrating oil or something.

I already tried the heat think a few hours ago.. Tried to use WD-40 to lubricate it and get it out.[&:] No such luck with any of it.

Any other ideas?

Edit: I'm sure someone here has had this problem I'd just wait, someone will have an answer. I just figured heat or oil would break it free.

Oh, the hammer idea came a long time ago:) Good thing I ordered a new engine for my buggy as this sleeve ant looking to good. I guess thats what I get for skipping some of the very important break in steps.

With the back plate off(since you already have taken a hammer to the sleeve LOL) you can take a flat head screwdriver and with using the bottom of the case as leverage try and pry the sleeve up. I have done this before when my rod's have snapped, the sleeve should stick out far enough on the bottom end to do this. Just enough that the sleeve will push up and the lip of the sleeve with then be able to be grabbed by a vice grips and be able to be pulled out.

When the rod broke did it deform the bottom of the sleeve ????

Usually you can slide the con rod and piston out by taking off the backplate and sliding the end of the con rod off the crankshaft. If the crank still pushes teh piston up you can put a zip tie or other type of plastic in the exhauset port, rotate the engine and the piston will push up against the zip tie and that will push th sleeve up.

Can't tell... With the back plate off I can't see it. The rod didn't snap in half, the part the connects to the crank just did.

I will try this again. I used a wire when I first tried to get it out but that did't work, maybe a zip tie is better. The thing is I can't really turn over the engine with out it getting "stuck".

cold break in is the cause of this IMO. Try the heat cycle method of breaking in engines. much less stress on the con rod. I think it is the best method.

I have always used the traditional five step method. I have looked into the heat cycle method many times but it just seems very strange to use.

Like I said, I didn't properly break in the engine at the start. Half way threw the FIRST tank I quit idling and decided to give it some go.. Not a good idea:eek: It did last for a quart and a half so thats impresive:).

I think I am just going to give up on this sleeve. I got it about 2mm out and it doesn't seem like it's going any were els. Had one guy hold the pliers on the sleeve and I pulled on the 200 degree engine (heated it up) with no such luck. Guess I'll wait till my new mill comes in.
