Is there really a difference in Electric and nitro? I mean like... Speed wise and how long they last...?

Having a mini motor is cool. I would get both. Even if you go more one way then the other it is good have at least of one electric and one nitro.

I think a lot of it depends on scale. With the mini's, brushless and Lipo are almost dirt cheap now and you can drive forever with loads of power. As you get larger in scale, nitro is probably a better choice. Once you get to 1/4 scale, you can use gasoline. There are mini nitro's and there are 1/8 brushless’, but I think they are more expensive alternatives. All of them have there advantages and all of them are great.

It would probably be best if you gave us something more specific.

This is my personal view:

- Nitro engines usually are more powerful than electric.
- Nitro engines do not need to be recharged, you just pour in the fuel and you're done. No half hour to 1 hour downtime while waiting for your batteries to get charged :(
- Nitro engines are noisy, while electric ones are more or less silent.
- Nitro models are usually much more expensive than electric ones.

I prefer nitro, mainly because of the downtime I used to have with battery charging.

This is my personal view:

-stock nitro vehicles are usually more powerfull than their stock electric counterparts, although this is starting to change with things like the VXL series, the Flux, and the Speed-T
-electric vehicles can be made much more powerfull because motor and battery technology is much more advanced than nitro engines and always will be
-nitro vehicles are usually cheaper up front, but more expensive over time
-nitro is a lot louder than electric

I prefer electric because it is more or less a big one time payment followed by parts, compared to a healthy payment followed by expensive fuel and parts for nitro.

how fast something is, is usually determined by how much money you spend, rather than your choice of nitro vs electric

electric is only faster whn you attatch lipos and stuff like that. they are expensive and very easy to blow up/ruin but when charged right and with the right setup electric can be faster than nitro. i just like nitro because i can fuel up and run all day

Really, the only difference is if you like the greater complexity of nitro or if you like the simplicity of electric. The money and power part of it can be argued to death.

Not true. An average 19t motor can beat most nitros on a track. Almost any electric setup is inexpensive, and for whatever amount of money you could get a faster electric setup than you could nitro.

I love both, but electric is faster hands down.

I've had both, prefer electric.

I converted my Savage X SS to electric because it was too slow as a nitro. THe conversion cost less than a new nitro motor and it went twice as fast and had three times the balls.

Either way, they are both good in their own little ways. What ever makes ya happy, get that.

So you built a 3+HP brushless setup for $100? That's how much a suitable nitro engine would cost that could even be described as be only half as fast and 1/3 as peppy as any brushless MT Ive seen.


Also, what average 19t motor on average (NiMH) batteries is faster than its nitro counterpart?

Uhm show me a good nitro MT motor for 100 bucks, my cousin could use one. A checkpoint 19 turn with a 7 cell will go about 35 mph with a 10 turn you'll reach 40.

1) My GF's 77 dollar nitro .21 engine will easily do 40 in her 1/8 buggy. The same company makes a .27 that is $83 that should push around a Savage pretty well.

My Rustler with the old Pro .15 would do about 40MPH out of the box.

of course there is a difference. gas can run up to maybe 30 to 45 min. but electric can be alot faster than gas. thats only if you have a brushless system and a lipo. but the electrics can run up to 30 to 40 min.i have had both. electric has alot more speed than gas.

my nitro sport with the pro.15 did 40 too but the tottal came to 330 CAD plus fuel plus after run oil plus battery pack and charger for EZ start. I couldve built a nice brushless car.

I appreciate and understand the benefits of electrics and intend to own one soon, but I think we should try to keep the exaggerations to a minimum.


Divine, Im not going to get into another childish "but XXX is cheaper than YYY" debate with you. It was said that an average 19t motor is faster than an average nitro. However, both of us have provided evidence proving that especially wrong since we both agree that a Pro .15 (IMO a below average engine) is faster than the ~35MPH that your average 19T vehicle will do with average batteries.

you dont need LIPO for it to be faster than nitro.. my nemisis 6s on 6 cells IB 4200 can do almost 40 mph.
