Need help w/ break in

I got my piston pinched by OSrocket and im breaking in my engine(i have to break it in rite?). Anyway, when i get it started it shuts off unless i have it at 1/2 throttle. And if i do get it running at idle, the wheels start spinning( fast). Why are my wheels spinnig at idle? I tried everything. Also, my engine is constantly getting locked up! So I need to no why my wheels are turning, and why my engine keeps getting locked up.

Also, i no this is this is off topic but my servos sometimes go crazy, they start jiggling.... on and off...?

Thanks in advance.

Your idle problem might be a result of the servos glitching.Check your batteries just to make sure and look for anyhing else that might cause the servo to glitch.

Ok, but i still need to know how to get "unlocked" and why it happened.

The Engine is completely locked up and won't move at all?

Are you running it rich, because the motor can lock up if you dont have enough fuel when the pinch is tight.

Put some fuel tubing over your antenna wherever it touches metal. That should help the glitches.

Yes im running it rich because im breaking it in.
My engine is completely locked up, i took the glow plug out and tried the pullstart but i wont budge. I dont want to break my p/s.

MY engine did that when it was brand new.

I mounted the engine..

Placed a PROPER SIZED flathead screw driver on the side of the flywheel and tapped it till it moved.

Hell even after 10 tanks of fuel my engine still locks up like that but not as bad as it did originally. (cuz its wearing out :( lol)
This ceramic head sure takes forever to break in!

As for the glitching radio.. good idea! I also read that its a good idea to cover the reciever (NOT antenna) in mylar, to give it some shielding.

I like the idea of putting fuel tubing on it. That should even protect it cfrom cuts!

I took the engine off my car w/ the glow plug off and tried turniing the flywheel. My fingers hurt sooo much from the pullstart. Anyway if i try turning it w/ a rag or something it turns but its VERY hard.

Thats fine..

I used a bottle opener (just a piece of high-grip rubber). So far my flywheel has all kinds of scratches and "bald spots" from me jabbing it with the screw driver..lol

Also make sure you dont make a habit of getting it stuck like that.

Its not good to do that when you have no oil through it.

IF your fooling around with it, make sure it has plenty of oil in it (or after run oil or something).

Just dont use random non-clean burning oils like I did and stained my engine..lol

Your fingers hurt huh? Your telling me?! I had cuts all over the place lol.

heat up the cylinder with a blow dryer

how am i going to start my engine now? The glow plug is out and i can barely turn it w/ my hands...

put the glow plug in but not all the way tight, then use a hair dryer and heat up the cylinder and then attach the glow igniter and try starting.

Try starting? I cant pull the p/s! Its all locked up still. I tryed heating it and it still wont budge.

He must have pinched the cyclinder too much. You may have to take the piston and cylinder out and start the break in by hand. To do this you have to use a very fine grinding compoud. You put a little compound on the piston and move it in the cylinder. This takes a while but you want to do it slowly so you don't wear too much away. I had to do this with my hyper 8 port because it wouldn't even get to TDC before locking up. Now my motor will actually start with my pull start. good luck :D

Man I really dont want to do that...
Cant I just take the p/s off, and put that metal piece into my drill and turn the motor over until its good?

I really don't recommend doing that. I would do it by hand if I were you. I know it sucks but if you want to get it right your gonna have to do it. ;)

Sounds like you were running her too rich which meant the ABC pinch never got a change to expand properly. You may want to try electrics since you apparently don't have the knowlege or desire to fiddle with nitro engines.

it happened with a couple of my friends cars. we just took out the plug, turned the car upside down and most of the time we would see fuel dripping out

I hate electrics. Ok, I never ran the engine after I got it back. I got it started once or twice for a few seconds but that was it. Apparently I dont have the knowledge... Are you saying im stupid?
Iv been doing nitro for 2 years now, and its not that i dont have the desire to fiddle, its that ever since i bought this engine its been giving me problems(its an RB, you wouldnt think it would be a prob engine) and im tired of fiddling.

WHat engine is it??

Now the first thing you need to know about OsRocket, is when he pinches these, the fit is extremely tight(better than new), and takes alot of heat to warm them up enough. You need to heat that sucker up good, and turn it over, the best thing for these engines is to use a bump starter or starter box. Just make sure youve always got heat on it till you get it running good!!

dbow 05-03-2003 12:55 PM

Lock up

NITROMAN!!! best advice I have seen on this thread yet.

DO NOT use a screw driver to pop the sleeve out your scoring the sleeve when you do this. THe engine needs to be heated up a little (hair dryer) and should roll right over.

I have a starter box but its 1/8 only i think. I tried heating it up w/ a hair dryer and still it wont move. I got the engine VERY hot. When I first got the engine back from osrocket, i was able to turn it over by hand and p/s, but now i cant...
If an engine is hydro-locked, how do u unlock it?

WhiskyVR-4 05-03-2003 04:51 PM

Need help w/ break in

If its hydro-locked all you have to do is pull the glow plug, turn it upside down, and crank it through a few times, most of that fuel should pour right out. If you are unable to crank it over and you don't have a glow plug in (as you previously mentioned) then you aren't compressing anything (and hence no hydro-lock).
