Help me decide

I have a construction site near me thats only semi a construction site now. They laid grass seeds in te finished areas and now theres a very big flat area of grass not to high but it will get higher. I want an RC to drive there. Ive been eyeing the MMGT 3.0 for quite some time but im not sure if I wanna put up with nitro agian. Ive also noticed this 1/10 scale losi desert truck that comes with lights and thats pretty cool, I could drop a sidewinder in it and make it fly. What I wanna know is which would YOU get and why? I'll make my desicion after I hear a few opinions. Also feel free to recomend me a car aswell.

savage 5.9 xl or the jato 3.3 fast and strong= more fun

The Losi Desert Truck isn't a bad choice, but I perfer the E-Firestorm Flux.

If you do want to go nitro, check out the HPI MT2 series, I just got the 18SS kit and its a blast.

well first thing, you should decide on whether you want a nitro or an electric. If you've had any nitros before then you're aware that they can be finicky and somewhat of a challenge at times. if you have a good idea of what you're doing and take care of them, in my experience, they're pretty reliable. personally, i have an mgt 4.6 and i love it. Associated builds great stuff and i think if you wanted to go nitro you'd be happy with the mmgt. honestly if i had some extra cash i'd buy one in a heartbeat. Something to consider other then nitro vs. electric is the terrain you'll be running on. A monster truck will handle rougher terrain much better, and in my opinion, is more fun when its not well groomed. i have a few stadium trucks and they're just as much fun, provided the surface you're running on is somewhat smooth. When it starts to get rocky and rough, the stadium trucks just feel a little out of the their element.

so if i were running at a construction site, i would personally probably lean more towards a monster truck because of the extra ground clearance/bigger tires. i wish i could tell you more about the how the truck handles, but i really have no personal experience with the mmgt. but its based off the mgt and looks like its layed out nicely and will run great. i've got five associated vehicles, so i can tell you from my experience with those AE is definitely dedicated and high quality stuff, and their racing reputation is awesome.

I've ran both, I have equpiment to run electric and nitro. Im leaning more towardsthe MMGT but I want an in depth review before I buy. I will look into the 18ss aswell it looks well equiped for my terrain and if I dropped like some kind of OS engine in there it would be pretty fast. Im guess im going nitro this time around.

I'll prolly take my 18ss out tomorrow for a bit, I'll post a video if I do. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall quality of the truck, and it looks nice too.

RE: Help me decide

the mt2 g3.0 puts out more power, so unless you really want to build a truck, i would check out the rtr. i've been looking at the truck for a long time, and i think i'm going to get one this summer. but anyways, a friend of mine had one of the original mt w/ the nitrostar .15, and it was a good truck, handled well, and really was alot of fun. his only complaint was the location of the power switch for the servos, it would get dirt in it and occasionally the servos would shut off. but other then that it was a great truck. Like i said just consider the ground clearance and tire size, cause it will really make all the difference in the world. The mmgt will also have a twospeed, w/ reverse.

That would be great if you could post a video, try different terrain and do some speed runs, it would be greatly appericiated:D. I totally forgot about the 2 speed on the MMGT, that would be great for extra power. Im torn between these two vehicles.

I've also just started looking at a new truck, the RTR OFNA Jammin CRT.5. I guess im not going for a big 1/8 scale because my bashing spot is quite a walk away and for somone without a license I dont wanna be lugging around a huge truck. I've been looking around and I see there are alot of upgrades for this truck.

socal450 05-10-2008 06:50 PM

RE: Help me decide

For that kind of use with mostly bashing i would go with the most durable and easy to get parts for truck, the RUSTLER! Ive had several trucks over the years, both nitro and electric, and my electric RUSTLER has been by far my favorite and most reliable. I have a Mamba brushless motor and ESC, and this thing screams..Two friends listed their nitros on e-bay after seeing mine run..That LOSI desert truck looks good(def.better than the [:'(]SLASH) but i have to see it time tested..

Woe, theres so much to chose from, my lhs is having a sale on the Savage 4.6 and that has alot of upgrade potential. I really like the CRT.5 though and I found that proline made a crowd pleazer for it. It I got the truggy assembly version could I fit an OS .18 in there?

qaiz 05-11-2008 02:35 PM

RE: Help me decide

The CRT .5 is quite amazing, I love mine.

Yupp you could fit a .18 in there no problem, a member on one of the forums I frequent, managed to get an OS V Spec Speed in there.

Quite amazing.

And theyre EXTREMELY tough.

I personally run the Pro version.

Well anyway, here are some pics, comparasion with a 1/8 scale, and some beauty shots :D.

Dont underestimate this, I run mine on the same track and terrain I run my 1/8 scales and 1/5 scales on, and it absoloutely screams.

RE: Help me decide

I would recommend a nitro truck. Sure, it may be a bit tougher to maintain but it's a lot more fun in the long run in my oppinion. They got more torque then any electric truck and can do a hole lot more.

Myself I have a Revo 3.3. They are very durable and I would highly recommend it. They are very fast and reliable.

hollylx88 05-11-2008 08:21 PM

RE: Help me decide

i don't know about nitros being faster.... if you shell out some cash the electrics can really fly. My t4 mm5700 on 3s will spank my gt w/ a lrp .18 prospec, and that motor hauls. but, after the batter/lipo/esc/motor I'm out well over $400, not including the truck. Really whats better comes down to personal preference. i love 'em both, and it really kinda depends on what mood I'm in. nothing beats that nitro smell though..

qaiz: Thanks for taking the time to upload those pics, Ive made up my mind (for now lol :D) Im gunna be picking up a CRT.5 RTR with an OS .18TZ come July. Hoping I will have no problems installing it and I'll have a back up engine if I messup the TZ.

Jeff Oliver: I know it can seem like it but nitros will never have more torque than electrics. Of course with nitros you get more torque for less but electric technology is expanding everyday, soon who knows what they will be able to do lol.

hollylx88: I know what you mean, brushless electrics can really fly but im going nitro this time around (only because they make you feel like your driving somthing that gives more satisfaction: the smell, the sound, and because they turn lot more heads:D)

Anytime.

Tho if your picking up the RTR, you get a Jammin JPX .12 with it, id give it a shot if I were you. Its a suprisingly powerfull lil' screamer.

Jump on the CRT .5 forums in the truggy section, makes a good read.

That OS .18 will drop right in there, im actually looking at that for my next engine. And those engines are bullet-proof.

Ya i'll probly run the .12 for a while and if it satisfy's my need for speed I wont have to use the TZ, I will be ordering it with the car though because ive seen so many vids of this engine and what it can do and im surprised its not sold out anywhere lol. Mabey i'll keep it and If I like the size of these cars i'll get a 1/12 hyper st in the future and use it on that.

RE: Help me decide

I think the MMGT would be perfect. Can get nice big tires for the taller grasses, bigger engines (can defo handle big blocks), has two speeds, reverse, and the list goes on.

The .18SS from HPI looks good too, but it's smaller, lower to the ground (not good for grass), and can only handle a limited engine and wheels. Same with the CRT .5

Go AE!:D

I'm not biased BTW...

Since you decided though, good luck with the CRT![8D] Post pics!

Im bringin this thread back to life lol, I went and checked out my bash spot agian today, Grass is getting higher but i know they will cut it down. Still it would be nice to have some ground clearence. I found out that A-main has the MMGT for the same price as the crt.5 and its much bigger with more ground clearence. My question is, would I be able to mount a .18 TZ in there with the 2 speed and everything?
