Anodizing
I want to anodize some of my stuff. Does anyone do this? Where do you get your material? How much? And how exactly do you do it?

RE: Anodizing
Try to search "home anodizing" in google. I once saw instructions how to do it at home with a power source and a color solution.
Here's one article http://www.warpig.com/paintball/technical/anodize.shtml Here's a good forum post http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=355794 Otherwise you cn contact a company, Pioneer Metal Finishing in Green Bay WI. I use them a lot through work so I don't know if they only do commercial business. Hope all this helps. -JB |
RE: Anodizing
There are a few problems with home anodizing. First is space. It takes multiple "baths" to anodize. As such you need multiple containers to store the baths. This normally takes up an entire shed sized area by itself. Second is the chemicals. While they are easy to find they are a royal pain to dispose of legally. Many anodizing companies cant afford to shut their doors because of the cost of chemical disposal. Last is the quality of the finish. Anodizing is more art than science. It takes a lot of experience to get colors to match, especially when the materials used are of different grades. This is something you setup and start running the parts you care about right away. A home ano kit costs about what getting an RC batch or two of parts done, depending on the complexity of the ano and the size of the parts. If this is something you want to do on a couple cars with a couple parts I would pay someone to do it. If this is something you want to do on yours and all your buddies trucks along with other household things then search around the net a bit as there is a TON of info out there on how to do it and how to set it up.
