What do Clutch Bells do..??? and when you research spare clutch bell parts, what does the "T" mean..
 

hey i was just wondering what the clutch bells did for your r/c car... what do they do... what are they for... and also when you research cluch bells, what does the t beside the number mean.. like: Example: 16T, 18T and so on... what does the "T" mean??

The clutch bell acts as a housing for the clutch,when the clutch(and engine) spins at a certain speed the shoes in the clutch engages and put the clutch bell in motion,and transfer the power from the engine to the drivetrain.The "T" means number of teeth on the clutchbell

[link=http://home.howstuffworks.com/chainsaw4.htm]link[/link]inside the clutch their are clutch shoes, the are on a hinge at the bottom or where the shaft of your motor is. when the motor spins it spins the clutch shoes and the top of the shoes begins to straighten and make contact with the clutch bell. once it grips the bell it turns the bell and turns all the gears. when your nitro car is idleing the clutch is not turning fast enough to get grip on the clutch bell but when you give it throttle the engine spin faster and puts more force on the outside of the clutch shoes. The T after the numbers refers to the number of teeth on the bell, the lower the teeth the slower your car will go and vis versa, be careful though because more teeth will make it harder on the motor and the motor will have to work harder to spin and you may run into tempeture issues.

The power from the engine goes like this:

Engine crank -> Clutch shoes -> Clutch Bell -> Clutch gear (The T number) -> .....

The clutch shoes catch onto the clutch bell when they're swung fast enough to counteract the springs.
Once the clutch bell is spinning, the power is transmitted to the pionion gears but the Clutch T number can change the gear ratio.

An 18T clutch will have a higher top speed but the 16T clutch will provide more acceleration.
