Dear All,
I just got into Rc cars after years of real cars. I have a kyosho super eight rally car and I would like a real exhaust out the back. If I removed the original silencer would I encounter power loss if I merely welded a chromed tube straight out the back? Apart from the noise would there be a problem?
Thank you very much for your help!

Which super 8 rally do you have? Is it the one based on the inferno or the MP7.5?

If it's the inferno, check out the on-road version's exhaust. It has an expansion chamber behind the rear shock tower with dual exhaust tips exiting under the body in the rear.

Tower Hobbies still sells them for about $23.

My super eight is based on the MP-7.5, would I have a power gain or power loss by removing the silencer?

You will see more sparatic performance, reduced engine life, reduced fuel economy, and a dramatic increase in noise.

Tanx for the help, but why would the engine life be reduced

When running without the silencer (muffler, or tuned pipe), the lack of back-pressure causes more unburnt fuel to spill out the exhaust causing the engine to run lean (less lubricating oil and higher temps). This is what reduces engine life.
