losing power?

Today, I could not accelerate well at the end of the day with the RXT. It seemed like the clutch was slipping. The engine would rev up, but the vehicle would not really move very fast. I took the clutch apart thinking something must be wrong there. Some wear was apparent, but it did not seem really unusual. Anyone have any thoughts about that?

I noticed white grease in the clutch assembly, specifically on the flywheel posts. Is that normal? If so, is that lithium grease?

I also noticed when I had the engine off that I do not have very good pinch on the engine. If I look in the exhaust with the manifold off, I see bubbling in the after run oil when I turn the engine over. I am pretty certain that it is from the engine leaking compression around the piston during the compression stroke. I am thinking I may get a new sleeve and piston. Maybe I burnt it when I was running too lean during break in before I found the plugged fuel outlet on the tank. Do you think that could be what was causing the lack of acceleration?

Thanks,

Bryan

hmmm could be....does it start right up?

RE: losing power?

Yeah, it starts fine. And it runs normal. But when I try to acce;erate, the engine revs up, but the truck does not accelerate well. It's like if you were in a regular car or truck with a manual transmission and got on the gas and left it in first gear. Normal engine reaction, but minimal speed.

I just figured it was the clutch. But it did not look unusual when I took it apart. And seeing the compression leak in the engine made me start to wonder about that.

It sounds like the Compression/Leakage might end up being a wourn Piston/Sleeve assy.....
But if it Starts and Runs, then the Truggy SHOULD move......

Maybe you just had a bunch of Lubricant in the Clutch assembly.......
Clean that all out and Try it again......

I would also check the Drive Cups are Secure on the Driveline.....
You Might have lost a Grub Screw and one of the drive cups might be loose......
That happened to my Monsoon just Last week......

yeah if the engine starts right up and it accelerates but the truggy doesnt your problem is from the clutch shoes out...from what it sounds your engine isnt the problem

a little leakage is normal on a used engine, only a new engine will have no leakage. After a few tanks that pinch is worn away enough to not be so airtight, i wouldnt worry about that.

Sound like you could have a loose drive cup somewhere in the drive line or maybe the flywheel is loose and slipping. It could be a bad diff gear, make sure the plastic hex's on the rims are not rounded out.

Just a few things to check.

Thanks, Eddie. I'll have a look at that stuff too.

I had the same issue with my viper. Figured out it was the spur gear slipping.. i realised this when it melted and gave up completely.

sounds like you had the slipper set up too loose and it melted the gear, the rxt has a center diff so there is no slipper and it has a metal spur.

In addition check your grub screws on the drive cups. :)

I had that same problem with my viper x2s burned up my spur gear. But i was having a tug of war with a tmaxx and just floored it tires started to spin then stopped moving should have realized something was wrong but i held the pedal to the floor (kinda stupid on my part but o well) needless to say i lost and had to replace my spur gear set up o well next time ill just throw a rock at his t maxx and break it [>:]

it was worth a try. T-boneing him should get the job done excpecially since he has 2 a arms busted and glued together plus various diff broken pieces
