my projects
1 Attachment(s)
well i was told to post my projects so here they are. the first few are of two hard bodys from walmart rc's that i sanded, painted and put decales on. i drilled hole so they both fit my traxxas stampede. the car body used to be red and the truck body was a yellow ford f-150 body. i used spray paint and hand painted the black and crome stuff. the car is painted copper and the truck is charcoal metalic. i'll post some pic of the bodys on the truck soon. the rest of the pics is of my 1/5 scale weedeater motor project car. i have been working on it little bye little for the past 1 1/2 years. it's almost done. just need either a new engine or new piston rings for the one in the pics. the car started out as a walmart electric car. i made some changes on it like the costem made axle and sub frame. put bigger tires on it and a 27cc weedeater motor. i making it belt drivin for now cuz i can't seem to find a chain and sproket set small enough for it. well i'll let the pics do the rest of the talking. please feel free to share your input on what you think. thanx for checking out.

RE: my projects
I have a feeling that the thin plastic chassis on your custom build is not going to hold up...

RE: my projects
the have chains and sprockets at http://www.allelectronics.com/index....=chain&x=0&y=0

RE: my projects
ORIGINAL: the JoKeR I have a feeling that the thin plastic chassis on your custom build is not going to hold up... Regardless, good luck with the rest of your project! [sm=thumbs_up.gif] If you need any sort of help on it at all, just let me know. BTW: I might be able to part out a little gas powered scooter we have, if you're looking for a new engine. It's 26cc, and would come with a clutch, chain, and sprockets. |
RE: my projects
actauly i had it working for a short while last year with a differnt belt setup and it worked fine until the belt eat up my plastic gear on the axle. i was using a vacum cleaner belt. the engine mounts mount to the white bars underneth so it is quite sturdy. i would like to build a chassis from alumminum but i really don't have the money to do all that. i build my costums from mainly from stuff i have just laying around. but i will post more pic of it latter. thanks for the link about the chain and spocets, i will be checking that out.

RE: my projects
Hmm... that sure looks familiar. :D
Looks real good so far! [sm=thumbs_up.gif] |
RE: my projects
yeah and it runs great, still working on getting the clutch right but its looking good. i sent you a money order a few days ago for $20 for the engine so i wouldn't spend it. and i should be able to send the rest next week i hope. i had to shorten the clutch it was too long and i'm trying to get the shaft shorter , so i cut the two ends off and i need to weld them togeither. and i need to put some good rubber on it so it grips cuz the ones on there just like to slide the car around. they were tires off a cheap truck from walmart.the look cool but don't work good. when i get it done done i will be posting a good vid of it driving around. so again i thank you for the engine, it helped me finally finish my baby. you are a cool guy.

RE: my projects
Took ya a while to get it fired(I watched the video), but it did fire though.:D
Nice project I just hope it holds together for another video.[sm=thumbs_up.gif] |
RE: my projects
if it don't hold i have something i can use as a chassis but i want to do it right with shocks that work like a good rc. but that will take alot of money that i don't have right now. i will post a pic of it when i get the chance. it is a steel peice off a RAZOR scooter.

ok well it's been awhile but i decided to try messing with my car again. i flattend out the steel peice from the razor and i think i can use the rear ass. from my stampede.here are some pics on how i'm trying to do this but i don't know how i'm going to connect the bevel gear with the shaft on it to the cluch ass. on the engine. any ideas? and all the gears in the rear end are all steel so i shouldent have any problems. i have to cut out some of the back of the chassis so the rear suspention can move freely but if i can figure out how to get the power to the tires i think it will work really nice.

RE: my projects
All the projects are looking nice. I have one I'm about to do as well and will post pics after the weekend. I'm taking an Ofna MBX and going to just go nuts with it. My friend has some sick ideas how to make it bigger, so we'll see.

RE: my projects
update! i have the rear end mounted and i desided to use the front end of my pede as well. only i miner problem if i put just the engine in it the chasiss goes to the floor. so anyone know if the sell stiffer springs for pede shocks and most likly i will have to buy or make some stonger shock towers. will post some new pics when i take some more. also i realized that the way i have the engine sitting in the pics and the bevel gears, will not work, the engine rotates the wrong way, so i will be useing the chain and sprockets i just hope becuz the sprocket sizes and the gear ratio in the rear end , it will still get good speed out of it. not sure but i will find out.

RE: my projects
I would find a stronger rear end to use. That axle is made to power an extremely light truck. That 2 stroke is heeeavy and makes a lot of torque and I dont think the axles, rear end, suspension arms, etc are going to like it:D
Check out this thread. Several guys converted their t-maxx's to 2 strokes and had good luck: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2893529/tm.htm I think you should buy a used roller, 1/8 scale MT like a savage, MGT, or Losi and convert that. The driveline should pretty much hold it, and the suspension, tires, etc.. will handle the weight much better. |
RE: my projects
Hey mate just had a look through your thread here.
Interesting stuff, but as others have said - make sure all the pieces you're using are strong enough to hold up against a 2-stroke motor. I'm not familiar with the parts you're using, but I dare say that anything that came out of a smaller RC car won't do the job for long. Maybe start at the beginning and not worry about suspension and diff for now and just try to get 4 wheels and a motor to move, and then let the build evolve. You say that you don't have money to spend on this project, but it doesn't have to cost a lot. You've seen my builds, and the only thing I've spent money on really is the radio gear and the wheels, and you have all that already so you're halfway there. Have a look around the scrapyards and second hand shops for old motors, bits of aluminium, powertools and anything you can pull apart to use bits from. Places that repair powertools will usually sell you a broken drill or drinder for a couple of bucks. Most of the time the motor is burnt out but all the gears are ok. Keep your options open, and try to always have "2 of everything" when homebuilding, as the first attempt usually never works. 3mm aluminium plate is plenty for a chassis if you put some angle bracing along the edges. It's easy to cut and light. One thing I do recommend investing in is an assortment of small nuts and bolts. Saves a lot of time to have them all there in front of you as you need them. Be patient and expect to fail a couple of times, and you'll get there in the end. ;) It took me almost a year of tinkering to get something that worked. And it's still way off being a good car. |

ok i have started a new thread for my 1/5 scale. that project will take awhile so i upgraded my ski's on my overdrive st. now i can ajust them and there alittle stronger. made some tire chains too, i think it might be too much weight to push so i might redo them with somthing alittle smaller.
