i read the article on cliff letts L30 that goes 111.xxx in rc car action, and i was wondering about breaking it with a nitro car. I think a dual .21 powered 1/10th scale touring car may be capable of it. His car only put out 1500 watts, and thats less than 2hp. I know its the rpms that count here, but you can over come that with power. A hyper 8-port puts out 2.3 hp, so 2 of those is 4.6. You could even use engines like the ws7 or the c5. any opinions on this? i would build it if i knew it was possible.

biggest problem with your plan is how much more the dual engine car would way.
Plus how high you'd have to gear it, unless you know people that can make custom gears for you its gonna be tough. Might be possible though, would be damn cool too. |

dual engines aren't the answer for speed, trust me... a buddy got his up to 109.85 Mph in a 1/10 car with 1 .21 engine. It is all gearing... BUT the weight will help because once you reach that kind of velocity, the air resistance is so bad, that usually it just pics up the car and flips it over..... if you can find a body that gives you good down force and won't lift that is the whole battle... good luck, because going that fast is an art, and takes alot of time and personal parts to adjust for the speed.
In theory these cars could go well over 130 Mph, But, it is when you get up there in speed they are so light(even with 2 engines) the wind just throws them around all over the place. |

yea miserynitro is right, just because you have more than one engine does not mean it will double the performance. i would suggest that you would have to make custom just about everything including the body. but hey nice idea.

a lola body is the best for stickin gyou too the ground and is the most aerodynamic. thats why you cant use em in real races.
where is this buddy of your who got his nitro car up to 109.85 mph? you sure that wasnt kph? did you guys see the video and read the article from rcnitro.com? he barely got his over 100 and he has cutom parts and a ton of money to fund anything he wanted like the engine he had in there. gearing isnt your only issue, cause if you gear it so you get as much top end as you would need, your not going to have the acceleration to get you to the top speed in the amount of space your going to need. all in good time people will be hitting 100 on a $1,200 car, and like anything else (homerun record?) it will be beatin over and over. modern technology.....future technology !!!!!!!! |

Like i said 109.85 MPH, it was recorded at Las Vegas motor speed way, on the 1/4 mile track!

not to call you out, but im a bit of a non-believer unless i see it...since i obviously wasnt there,do you have any proof? :) :)
|

well i have no video, so i technically have no proof i can provide, but that isn't even close to the 1/10 scale land record either, he ran into the problem i stated above, and his car was worth close to $8000 of personal time and money for drawing up parts and manufacturing them. Well if you know anybody that hangs out there, ask them if they know the guy that used to go out on Saturdays and beat 1:1 scale cars on the 1/4 mile track.
The original car started out as a Traxxas Nitro 4 tec Pro, then just went mad with speed, he had a 3 speed on it, tons and Tons of custom work. i will see if i have any pics that i can bring up, but i am not sure. |

dude forget it 2 engines will not help

Thats a VERY good point!
Remember that friction and drag are 2 components that increase as a MULTIPLE of speed!! So the difference between 100Mph and 80 Mph is the same as 105Mph and 100Mph! Evil.. but true. Holy cow.. 1500 Watts? Your talking about a hairdryer. Thats a LOT of energy. Thats about 1 HP. Could you please post a link? I would really like to see this! With nitro? Yes of course it can be done :) Nitro can do anything electric does remember? :) I think one innovation that will REALLY help would be some kind of continuously variable transmission (CVT). OF course this will be an industry first and theyre are still kinda new in the automotive world. yes they are not totally mechanical, they would need servos unto themselves but I think this will displace the weight of a 5 speed tranny you'd need to compare! OF course the tranny itself would cost an arm and two legs but I think it will be a major step forward! Both in acceleration and top speed. Somehow I still dont really like SHAFT drive. IT just FEELS less effiecient. Does anyone know of a comparison? A friend of mine told me that belt cars dont roll freely so much as a shaft but that could be because of a number of reasons. And as for the body. I think an F1 style body would be best. Its almost like a programmable body! You can test run and change the downforce (by making a new body?) to suit the track and wind etc. With the current bodies.. all the downforce is towards the back. This can cause the whole thing to flip over and do crazy things! Another thing overlooked is the major turbulence created by a not-so smooth undercarriage. The whole boxy will have to be ONE wedge. NOT hollow from the bottom! This just KILLS the aerodynamic flow. That said.. I think it is possible :) ram |

just keep trying trial and error just try different bodys and gearing and motors you will get it right

Come to think of it, what about a Glowtric solution? :)
Yes Glowtric. You know, like dieso-electric? lol With electrics.. the battery is probably a big weighter right? Why not put in a high revvin 12, connect it to a small alternator, a nice .5 Farad capacitor and run a dual electric setup from there and hook it up to a CVT? :) That will be slightly heavy but it should haul! When up to speed, the .12 will be able to generate a decent bit of electricity! I'm talkin about a 1/8 if not larget model here though lol. This idea is starting to sound like one of Tom's (Tom&Jerry) mousetraps lol Ram |

id go with a 2wd but then once you get to the higher speeds your gonna have to be real good and hope you dont hit any bumps, no tihgt turns either.

youll need a drag strip
|
world record idea
At least!!!
Just think you have to start way off behind you, so that you have the range to get it up to speed, and carry the speed to get radared.... then by then you have lost communications, and such.... there must be some way of getting these things to fly that fast.... |
world record idea
the world record holder did it on a oval track
|
world record idea
get a good radio with the longest range you can find seein that money evidently isnt a real issue here
|
world record idea
.lol yep
|
world record idea
stand in the middle of your drag strip, (they are quite long btw, definatly enough room cuz 4000 lb cars dont stop too quick
|
world record idea
get a turbine engine, or 2 that have 40 Lbs of thrust each, and use those on the back, use a .21 to get it up to speed then the afterburners kick in and your flying!!!!!!! since those egines can lift a 20 Lbs plane, and make it move 250 plus Mph!!!
|
world record idea
is this supposed to bea strictly nitro car or do you have any limits on what you want to put on it?????
|
world record idea
i woudl think it can be a jet car
|
world record idea
but still doesn't that still classify it as a 1/10 scale CAR though??
