Stampede transmission problems
I had my Stampede out earlier and I heard a sound like the gears were stripping. I brought it inside and pulled the cover off but the gears were fine. I put it on the carpet and tried to make it drive. The pinion gear was spinning normally and it was spinning the spur gear normally but the wheels were not spinning. Something would periodically "grip" and it would move forward a few feet but the pinion and spur gears would go back to just spinning without the truck going anywhere. Could this be a problem in the transmission? If it is is it hard or expensive to repair?

RE: Stampede transmission problems
probably the little gear inside the tranny(i think its called the idler gear), replace it with the alum or steel one

The pin on the input shaft might be broken. Happened couple times with my Slash. Also, check your slipper to make sure it is not too loose. |
RE: Stampede transmission problems
sob! i had the same problem with my srt at the track this weekened but at the time i pulled the tranny in a hurry and didnt even think to look at the pin. i always took that pin for granted since ive never had a problem ever with either the newer revo style shaft or the older peg/slipper setup. good to know for sure.

RE: Stampede transmission problems
it is not hard to fix the trans .
or usually pretty cheap for most the parts in the trans. if you get to where you dont know if your doing it right there are parts break down's on traxxas .com! |

RE: Stampede transmission problems
Thanks I haven't had problems with transmissions before so its all new to me. I'll take it apart in a bit and see what's actually wrong.

RE: Stampede transmission problems
I had one a lot like that but mine(rustler) was the differential in the transmission. The gears had a grove cut in them and the shavings got in the grease and so on. It was 15 dollars for the part and took 10 min to install. If that input shaft isn't the problem.
2388x is the part I'm talking about. |
RE: Stampede transmission problems
I'm thinking you killed the idler gear inside the trans. You'll want to replace it with the steel piece from the VXL. While you're in there swap in the steel diff as well. With these two pieces in place you may never have to open the gearbox again. When you put it all back together use some thick grease on the gears and pack the diff.
One last thought. Before you dig into the gearbox make sure the slipper isn't too loose. If seen them warped where they will act exactly like you described. |
RE: Stampede transmission problems
It was the middle gear in the gearbox. I got it all replaced and working again. Thanks a lot.
