Default servo control

hi, i have a question about servos. i have a jr tx/rx and servos in my car. i plan to use my stuff for a tech project for college. the idea was to use photo sensors mounted under the front bumper to follow a line on the ground. but i first have to understand how exactly servos are controlled. is it a digital signal? controlled by pulse width like an esc? or is it an analog signal? i'll have to create the circuitry to control the servo. if anyone knows the answers, or if you could point me in the direction where i can find them, that would be great!

thanks.

There two types of servo digital and analog , analog is more comom servo because is cheaper.

At the university that I have attended, every year there is a competition where small vehicles are supposed to follow a line without guidance. Just to inform you that this has been researched before.
But it is fun and provides good knowledge.
