Default Axon 3QX 2.4 ghz 3 channel Radio

Has anybody used this radio? I am looking for a cheep way to outfit some loaner cars with 2.4GHz to avoid frequencie conflicts. At $100 this seems a deal. I would be interested to hear what people think. Junk or Gem? All informed comments welcome. If you have never used one don't bother speculating.

Now that you point it out, Very

So does that mean you get an Airtronics MX-3 but for $50 cheaper, with some wonky Axon bade on the front?

So it appears. If Axon was making a ripoff, Sanwa (Airtronics stateside) would breathe fire down their neck,
I've got a cheesy looking Acoms AM27 which says Kyosho on the front. Surprizingly good.
Oh and I've also seen That Sanwa transmitter with a "Graupner" logo on it.

Cheers

It might use the same or a cloned case, but Its not an MX3 fhss if thats what you are thinking... or a converted MX3 fm... the features are way different...

My question is, where would you get receivers for it? I doubt the airtronics RX's would work, and if they did they are still $90 each, so you really arent saving much....

Hmm. I hadn't considered that. I am not sure if it is hard to get extra receivers for it or not. The transmitter comes with one for $99, but they don't list additional receivers separately. Even if the company refused to sell me a receiver separately, I am not sure if that is an issue in my case as I only need the one.

Mostly I am trying to find out if anybody has used this radio and knows if it is any good. Suggestions of other rock bottom dollar 2.4GHz options are of course welcome

you can get a 2.4 radio from a losi RTR truck for cheap. search ebay for "losi 2.4" I have seen the transmitters go for $8.50-$20.00... normaly closer to $15ish... They arent computer radios, but they do have a dual rate dial so you wont burn out your steering servo, plus they will work with any losi or spektrum DSM reciver... you can get losi 2.4 receivers on ebay for around $35-$40..... And you know in 5 years, you will still be able to get recivers for it.....

Thanks for the suggestion! It is hard to argue with prices like that. Do you have any experience with the Losi 2.4 GHz radio systems?

Thanks again,
Spiro

Any estimate on the range? Not that I need a mile or anything, but after hearing all sorts of horror stories from some guys with spektrum radios I am a bit leery.

Thanks much,
Spiro

Well, its a 1/18 scale so i can really do a range test or I cant see it.. ive driven it 75 feet or so without a problem.... but yea I have heard of people having range issues with DSM too.... Seems to be a crapshoot, some people say they are fine, but some say they get 50 feet and go out of range.... Since the spektrum radios stick to a single channel, its easier to disrupt them than something like a futaba thats constantly hopping frequencys .... But then, who knows about the range of the axon radio.....
