XP Digital DS1903MG Servo

The DS1903MG servo has been in one of my stadium trucks since around March '14. I had won it in an auction to replace a burnt out servo. I look at the specs now and they aren't that impressive, but it's what came in a lot of AE's RTR vehicles (SC10, ProLite 4x4, ProRally, RC10B4.2, RC10T4.2, SC10B).

During a teardown of my truck, I noticed some slop in the steering (as usual in my aging RCs). The servo looked suspicious. Even though the 1903MG is a "metal" gear servo, only two of the gears are actually metal. The output gear (the one you attach a servo horn on) has some up and down travel to it now. A good 2mm of motion. I didn't open it up and look at it to see if shimming the servo gear is even an option. I just put the servo horn back on and the servo back in the ST. I wait now for the whole thing to go poo poo.

I am using all of the 52 oz-in of torque the 1903MG is said to produce. That torque rating is stretching it for a stadium truck with larger/heavier tires on.

Would I recommend someone go out and buy one of these servos? Heck no. Not at retail price anyway. If you stumble upon one for $10 (or less) and are desperate...the servo will get you by :). But I am impressed with the XP DS1903MG servo holding up this long.
