I have one built and one spare which in hind sight I realize now was unnecessary. I want to turn it into a drifter the chassis is well balanced.

Guys i want more top end, it accelerates quickly, but dosent have the top end id like for an onroad. Im running 4200mah 6 cell with a 4200kv ballistic motor with 58/25 spur pinion gearing... What gearing should i run to get more top end?

Are you running aftermarket motor mount? Because if you are using Tamiya's standard setup, 58/25 combo is not possible.
If you look at your owner's manual, you will see all the possible gearing combo (again, assuming that you are running the Tamiya motor mount).. The tallest gearing allowed w/ the Tamiya motor mount is 55/25. So that will offer you some more top end compared to your 58/25 combo.

No, I just meant when you steer with your radio, do the steering knuckles go as far as they can turn yet? If not, you might be able to adjust your radio to give it more throw (through the end-point adjustment) to maximize the servo travel first.. then start worry about modifying the steering system to get more steering.. which will most likely require you to go w/ CVDs or you will bind the dogbones..

RE: Tamiya TB-02 Resource Thread
Hey guys, I haven't posted in this forum in years, as I haven't spent time on rc for a while. I have a tb-02 that I want to start working on again. I want to eventually throw an ezrun brushless system into it, and I have heard plenty about diff failures with this car. I want to drift, so I am planning on getting the tb-03 spool from 3racing (for back) and the aluminum diff joints from yeah racing (for front). Besides the diffs, anything else I will need to upgrade for brushless? (thinking about 3500kv motor, with 4200mah nimh for now)
Thanks in advanced

Hey guys, I'm looking for a Tech-Racing TBD010. Does anyone know where I can find one? What are the thoughts of going with the Yeah Racing aluminum diff joints and just drilling out the diff and adding a custom bolt to hold the diff together? Iran a 5900kv motor on a lipo 3s. I know it was stupid, but I wanted to see what it would do... it turned the car into a front wheel drive car, but for that 20 seconds it sure went fast! Anyway, I'm looking to strengthen the diff or replace it with a solid axle and it looks like that Tech-Racing one would be the best option. I just can't find them anywhere.

Ordered up a Sidewinder SV2 coming for the car, really would like to run 3s on it, planning on filing down the 3racing motor mount to accept my custom gear ratios.

That's awesome! I've been having a hard time figuring out where to mount the 2.4 receiver because the antenna is so short. I may take the same route here. I'm still waiting for my new diff joints (plastic and aluminum) to come in. Debating whether to lock the diff or get the TB-03 spool and shim it up. Either way I doubt I'll run a 3s through it again.

RE: Tamiya TB-02 Resource Thread
So I totally stole your idea for a custom receiver mount. I put a small square of acrylic on top of the rear gearbox and the elevated height totally saved my receiver yesterday. I lost control of the car and it ran through a gutter that had water in it. If the receiver had been mounted on top of the servo it would have been fried for sure.
I'm hoping that the diff/diff screw can hold up to a 5900kv brushless motor. If not I have one more diff screw and after that I'm going to lock it until i can get a solid axle.
Anyway, thanks for the idea!

No problem man! Always thought it was a pita to get the antenna to mount! Im really debating making this a small 10th buggy. I really am bored of having an onroad only car, and would love to make this guy into a buggy. Im going to be pretty strict on how i want it... definately Some 2.2 badlands on dish rims, with a wide arm mod.... Will be looking into that as its probly going to be the most difficult part. Lower arms need to be under 4cm wide, at the mounting point, i can always shim the front diff higher off the chassis and a little bit of trimming to allow proper articulation of the arms, will be getting some TRF shocks, probly off the buddy line of vehiles to use, upper arms will be adjustible, will need to find longer and stronger turnbuckles along with ballcups that can fit stock balls 2.5-3mm diameter i believe... The dogbones need to be 6mm balls with 2mm pins... Could appreciate the help if you guys know of arms and dbones that length, and width.

have you considered a rally conversion? I wouldn't be any help with the offroad buggy conversion. I bought this car to run on the street only since i got tired of breaking my offroad trucks on the street. A rally conversion would be super easy though. just swap the tires and rims and raise the suspension just a tad. With the right motor/gearing combo it would definitely be able to take jumps, gravel and dirt.
