I think the Frog wheels actually look a little better on it!

Now for some tire chains!

Yeah, a good way to gear it down.. if I run hotter motor on it, hee hee..

You give up a little bit of ground clearance, though.. but oh well, but make it more scale, ha!!

This is an interesting Wild One w/ some interesting mods done to it.. that I thought would be a worthy addition to this thread.. (saw it on eBay)

The wheels / tires => paddle and Mohawks from Proline.. so those are something that you can still get.. but the others.. I doubt those will be available anywhere other than eBay..

First, the car itself:

Note the front anti-roll bar and the mounts... nicely executed.. not sure if those are home-made.. if they are, they are nicely done..

The rear anti-roll bar and the mount, again, integrated well into the rear cage, nice!

Also note the shock is now mounted on an aluminum bracket and then mounted to the swing arm.. interesting.. that's not stock either..

Wild One next to The Frog.. [8D]

The two share similar rear suspension design - I wonder if the Frog hop-up CVDs would work w/ the Wild One or not.. that would be interesting to find out..

Do you ewver plane on "running" it? I mean running like just going around slow as to not mess up anything or is it simply for the shelf. I am curious as how it performs compared to a frog or something similar.

I will probably put electronics in it just so I can drive it around... but probably not hard enough to know how it compare to the Frog.. ha!

Will take it apart to put in the ballbearings first, though!

Might need to look for another one on eBay to make it a runner?! Ha!

Was looking at this one on the Bay to see if I can pick it up for cheap and use it as a runner...

Still hours away, and it is up to $236 already.. [:@] Guess I will just keep on staring at my new built Wild One...

Note the aftermarket front oil shocks!

Still need to decide if I should run it or not! Ha!!

I wish they would release it. It was a cheap car and due to the motor behind the rear axle (Porsche like ), the handling was one of the best in its time. I drove mine by every weather. Driving it on packed snow is something you can not forget, simply awesome. The top speed was close from the Hornet, leaving behind the RC10, but its lack of grip on the front end due to the poor shocks, did not allow it to compete with the RC10. The only way I found to improve the grip on the very light front end, is to set it up with the heavy weight Ford/Subaru Brat tires&wheels plus some after market shocks. The only flaw was inside the gear box, but a single washer could solve it.

Again, I hope they will re-release it,

JYM.

I hope they re-release it AFTER I sell mine.... hee hee...

Why do you think a rear engine platform would give you better handling... (yes, Porsche 911 like, but that was a compromise to begin with that turned into "tradition".. if you give Porsche a blank sheet, they would go mid-engine no doubt, which they did, w/ Carrera GT and Cayman / Boxster..) Anyway, just saying...

Rear engine w/ rear biased weight setup give you crazy traction on the back for drive out of the corner and launch, though... (but probably doesn't turn too well!) ha!

The body panel is secured by a body mount and a clip up front, and the rear are held by the round shaped brackets that hug the round shaped bar of the rollcage.. Interesting little touch from Tamiya, LOL!

The roof (lexan) is held to the cage by 4 screws.. 2 self threading scres up front, and 2 machine screws w/ those plastic nuts on the other side..

Odd, isn't it?! LOL!

Lexan cover w/ plastic head! The head / helmet was not painted..

Note the stickers.. in the old days, RC companies are more willing to pay for the licence fee for using stickers of products of actual brands.. Arai helmet, Scotts google.. nice! We don't see those anymore...

The box on the back of the driver looks like a tool box, nice, eh?! It is a space for the RX battery pack! (the time before BEC, ya know! )

OLD SCHOOL!! [8D]

That's the location on the chassis corresponding to the tool box.. the space for the 4 AA RX pack..

A little slot for the cable! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Trailing arm riding on a metal shaft, and the shaft riding on the metal loop (similar to Frog's setup)..

Better than Frog's setup, though.. as in Frog, the trailing arm (plastic) rides on the metal loop (a much bigger loop) directly.. and I always feel that there's friction there..

When I have time, I will take the whole rear end apart to re-build the tranny.. maybe I will take a better look at the trailing arm setup.. (because w/ that small metal shaft setup, it almost feels like you can design ballbearings into the trailing arms..)
