hi all
does anyone know if the bearings from a hornet will fit the golden arrow
Yes as far as I know they'll fit just fine. Really nice Arrow by the way. Did you buy it new?

hi trueimport
thanks for the reply
i will look into getting some for the arrow
i would love to say yes i got it from new but i cant
i got it in a joblot of radioshack and nikko cars
i also got a red arrow but i sold that and the rest of the joblot
it also came with a second chassis but the chassis has had it and body
(but someone thought it would be a good idea to paint it white)
(i think a dead monkey could of painted it better)
as soon as the snow melts over here i plan on getting some more video's of it
did you manage to get a golden arrow ?
if not have a look at this

dust75 - Yeah I'm up to my neck in GA stuff now. I have one near mint (not quite as mint as yours) GA and one that is extremely heavily modified GA that I use for bashing almost daily I also have a box full of GA parts as back ups. On one of my last posts I stated that I was going to get some video of mine put together but I never got around to it. Now that its snowing here I'll have to wait until spring to get any put together. That second chassis that you have you should turn into a basher. I have had so much fun with mine that I havent touched any of my other RCs in a long time. with the amount of power that my brushless puts down I'm shocked that the stock GA rear end hold up to the relentless abuse that get thrown at it.

hi true
cant wait to see videos of your GA
i cant make another GA out of the 2nd chassis
as the top suspention mount has broken
i did find the original hand book the other day
(i say i but what i mean is the better half found it lol)
i know what you mean about using the GA
i would love to run mine but i dont want to damage it
i have stopped useing my monster beetle my kyosho big brute
i still have to open the box just so i can get that new smell [sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
i was thinking about removing the paint off the second body
and getting a hornet and drilling the shell to fit the body mounts
and having a hornet arrow or a golden hornet [sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif]

Great to see this thread here...
This was the first buggy this RADIO SHACK "GOLDEN ARROW" that I ever got.

I took it to the track called "THE DIRT DOME" when I was a kid.
My cousins had RC10's and Kyosho Ultima's way back when...
Ahhh the memories....

The Golden Arrow was like a "toy like" version of the Hornet.
The Hornet you could actually race it. I never raced my golden Arrow in the 80's
I just ran laps with the Grasshoppers and Hornets that were on the track.

BTW there is one on ebay right now.

Another Radio shack car I had was a Black Phantom. It was one of the last ones Radio Shack made in 4wd.

Wow! I just read this whole thread, that I found from a random google search, and saw lots of love for mighty Golden Arrow. Then I thought to myself that I just couldn't walk away and had to join the fun. I have a Golden Arrow that got back in high school from my brother who manage a Radio Shack at the time. It was a heavily abused display/test unit with a missing front bumper, worn tires, and general overall wear and tear, but it still worked good. After lots more abuse and crash damage I found I needed some parts that the Shack said weren't servicable by the user, so I had to prove them wrong. In my quest I got a roached out Traxxas Cat rolling chassis from a friend and found that with little to no modification I could make some of the parts work. At that point I did some mods and upgrades too.I still have it and crack it out from time to time.

My list of mods/upgrades are-

Bearings all around
Bullet motor
mix n match Cat and GA gears with optional pinions
Stock electrics with battery eliminator mod
Cat rear hub adapters and Cat wheels/tires front and rear
Cat front bumper
Cat front trailing arms.

All three motorcycles are Tyco bikes. The dirt bikes have a gyro stabilizer in the rear wheel, but the street bike has a weighted front wheel that stabilizes it when it's up to speed. All three are pretty fun and near indestructable.

The truck is a combo of a Radio Shack Wild Horse, a Sears Lobo II (or III maybe), and a Nikko Big Bubba. The Sears and Nikko are near identical, just a few minor cosmetic changes like the fake engine, stickers, etc, but the Shack Wild Horse had the same lowerchassis and drive train with a mid chassis section and body that were different. I got the Wild horse for Christmas one year from my brother (the Shack manager) and after afew seasons of abuse and mods the electrics crapped out. Then the same friend I got the Cat chassis from had a Big Bubba that had good electrics so I mixed and match parts. Then a few weeksafter thatwhile walking to school I found a Sears Lobo in a ditch. It was truck only, but had lots of good parts. About ten years agothe electrics finaly died in this one too, so it sits waiting for more doner parts.

I love these old radio shack buggies. I've been trying to restore a Red Arrow, but am hung up on one thing. The stock pinion is 10t. I've bought several new 10t pinions, and they are all just a hair too big and the spur fits too tight and the motor will not turn. I'm not a spur and pinion guy, so i was hoping ya'll would have some ideas. I cannot really go with anything physicall larger than the 10t, because the casing is small and is not physically big enough. I have the original pinion, but it appears that radio shack had it permanently mounted. Is there any way of getting the old pinion off? I saw one person fixed up a GA, did you have the same issues, and how did you resolve it? I'm really looking to fix this up, as it is my original car from 20+ years ago...

thanks,

jason

Hi Every one

Glad to see that Golden Arrow still live with such a nice fellows

well I am 36 Yrs , enjoyed playing Golden Arrow 20 Yrs ago , that time that we lived without Internet or Playstations or any of the modern current entertainment , Now I'd like to restore it for my 7 Yrs old Son , and iam sure he will love this old toy as Idid long time ago

I had a problem with it , when i tried to operate it , Idiscovered that it is not sensitive to the controller , so Ihad to bring the controller touching the car so it could recieve signals and move normally , otherwise , it is not recieving any signal from even 30 cm far from the controller

Ihad some electronic basis since that iam a Radio amateur , what do u suggest me do start with ,

Thanks in advance

Karim

hi karim
the GA is a rip off of the tamiya hornet
so i would think all the parts off the hornet will fit the GA
as for the electrics the GA was made by nikko for radio shack (tandy in the uk)
so any 1/10th scale electrics from a nikko car will work fine
if you want to replace the old radio gear with new gear
you will have to cut away at the insides to make room for the steering servo
you will need a normal transmitter with a N/R switch as the GA servo is backwards
also a esc and a reciever
hope that helps
