This is what I started with. It's been sitting in ziploc bags for over a year. I'm ready to start working on it now. I will take pictures of the process along the way. My goal is not factory restoration. I will change parts, and make new ones If I need to. I enjoy this, so it will take time... The first thing I am going to do is remove the casting marks on all the suspension arms. I think they are an eye sore. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1929661 The tools I'm using. 2 arms done. Still going to need final sanding to clean up the scratch marks. And a good polish. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1929662 That's it for today. |
Desperately wanted one of these as a child
I picked up a small Kyosho catalogue at our local model shop, and must've worn it out willing the picture to come to life! |
I remember the first time I seen a landjump. I thought that thing must go through anything. RC has come a long way since then.

Well today I decided that I did not like the arms that hold the rear shock. They were really thin compared to the rest of the landjump.
I had some thicker aluminum laying around and traced them out, and cut them. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1929894 Here is another picture to show the size difference. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1929895 One on the left is the new one. Right one is the original. Other thing I did today was cleaned up the left and right arms. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1929900 Good enough for today. Getting tired of sanding things. |

See that piece sticking up? That's the bracket that hold the exhaust up. It looks like they just stuck a square piece up, drilled two holes and said good enough. That's the next part I wanted to change. The first thing I did was grind the bottom surface to match the angle behind it on the bottom. Then I dressed it up a little and it turned out like this: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1931185 Like this look a lot better. And I got to try out my mini milling machine in the process. (craiglist find) Don't know what part I will work on next. |

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1938236 This is how the front end turned out. I added aluminum tubing between the axles. I milled slots in each piece. Then I put some colored film inside around the axle itself. Turned out pretty good. I also got rid of the little piece that held the steering assembly. Replaced with a new piece that spans to both sides. |
Kind of thinking I might make a new servo box out of blue acrylic. If anyone else has some cool ideas, please share.
|
I have a new one still in the original box with many extra soup up parts from Japan.
|
You got any pictures of it? What kind of hop-up parts did they make for it?

Here is my Landjump with special hop-up parts.
Front and rear sway bars with harden steel suspension arm Special tuned pipe to replace stock drum muffler Heavy duty chain and front suspension arm Aircraft aluminum left and right front knuckles Front differential OS Max and K&B engine with slide carb Last picture is a radiator system that I am building for cooling off the engine The radiator system consists of a tank, small pump and radiator fins |
Thank you so much! I did not know they had a sway bar kit. That's really neat. Would like to see your radiator project when your finished. Did you buy it new and never put it together? Or, are you a collector?
|
I bought it new back in the eighties. I also have the Circuit 20 buggy.

Started working on the landjump again. Got the front bumper made. Also got the fuel tank holders done.
Hoping to have the servo box made in the next month. Might try making the servo save out of aluminum down the line. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2172844 (side note, just got done building the Optima!) http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2172842http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2172843 |
