Great Thread everyone!!! Took me a long time to read them all !! @)

Now that I am hooked I will have to get one too! (I wanted WW1 when I was a kid. Wild Willy was nick named the "Funky Jeep" back in the day) I was going with the E-Maxx first but WW2 is more fun with the kids!

Question is, do I get the Wild Willy Kit version or the RTR version? The Kit version has the mechanical speed control, while the RTR has TEU-101BK ESC for only ~$10 more! I just got the Tamiya Hornet Re-release, which was the first real RC I had when I was a kid, and I wanted to see how low the TEU-101BK can go, starting with the Orion Double Method R 21T. Obviously with the WW2 RTR, I would still need to take WW2 apart to put in stainless ball bearings... but not having to paint is a plus! I am lazy! (and maybe a little cheap) HA !!

Also, I don't know the build quality of the RTR's, as well as the EXPEC Radio, is up to par... Building the kit is part of the fun!

If I go with the Kit, I would probably go with a Duratrax Sprint or IntelliSpeed Auto-Sport ESC, and a Futaba Radio. If you have any experience with any of the ESC's please let me know too.

I would usually recommend kit.. but if you can get the RTR for only $10 more, that's probably not a bad deal.. :D

Wow that's a fast response! Yea after the Radio cost it only costs $10 more for the ESC! So I got one righter after I posted, hehe :D

Thanks, I have been stocking up on ball bearings [8D] My Tower Wish List has about 40 items :D Those Nylon looking bushings came with the kit are a lot better quality than the plastic clip-offs we had back then, but still.

Will definitely get some pictures. Might even be the time to finally get that Digital SLR for my Canon lenses [>:]

What also sold me on the RTR was seeing this: Too bad it's not available in the US...

No, even though Tower says MSC, it's the ESC, cause the second WW2 I bought the other month from the LHS came with one, and the LHS got it from tower just for me.:D

Weird, Tamiya's Website says it's a MSC, even though the pictured showed an upgrade ESC.

Hmm, well, that is old, Tamiya doesn't update the vehicle info that often. Since mid last year they have been including ESCs in their single motored RCs, instead of MSCs.

RE: Wild Willy 2 w/ pics

Maybe the new ones come w/ them now! That's good.. I think when I got mine last year, it did not... that's why I got the Futaba MC330CR..

just a tiny bit of trivia... i dont know how many times its been brought up, but the grille of the ww2 has changed , from the jeep like slots to the horizontal mesh, it had 6 instead of 7 slots because http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep the 7 slot design has been copyrighted by willys for the m38 which is wild willy 1 , by american motors for the humvee , and by chrystler for the modern jeep suvs
ford had a 9 slot grille http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willys_MB#Post-war , and they also made the m151 which had horizontal slots....

wow its actually bigger!

and yeah, that willys wheeler one really shows the tl-01 roots of the chassis... can you say hot hatch???

::edit:: okay, ive gotta give this one to you guys, on here http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:H...&ct=clnk&cd=14 it seems that the ww2 chassis has different 'shock modes' or something?

RE: Wild Willy 2 w/ pics

You mean WW1 vs WW2?!

WW2 has bigger tires, wider overall.. the shell is identical, though.. (except the body post location..)
