Yeah, I don't know how people paint small items.. like the face of Willy.. I always make a mess.. [:@]

Maybe I need better (smaller?) brushes... !?

that and practice. my uncle paints lead figurines. little 2 or 3 inch lead soldiers. he's really really good at it. but then again, he's done it my entire life...so he's got practice. i don't have the patience. i get frustrated when it isn't perfect.

i still hold dreams of buying a WW2. but i had to put those plans on hold. one day, man...one day...and when i do, i hope to take my time and do a real nice paint job. we'll see...

Yeah, Wild Willy is definitely a classic.. the WW-2 chassis is new, but the shell is pretty much identical to the original M38 Wild Willy! I think it is one of those RCs that's just so unique that you got to have one in your collection!!

My fiance bought me a WW2 for Christmas! She's terrible at keeping secrets so she gave it to me already, and I just spent the weekend assembling and painting it. Here's some pics:

btw, does anyone else find there is a lot of flex in the steering servo mount? I notice when I steer the servo moves side to side a fair bit. Has anyone tried bracing it to stop this from happening?

The metallic blue looks great.. nice job on painting the shell!!

Now go run it and scratch it all up!! (and don't worry, you will... :D )

Hmm.. I don't really find much of that at all.. do you have your end-point adjusted properly on your radio? (so the servo is not trying to move more than what the wheels allow?)

Unfortunately I'm still using a basic Futaba stick radio that I've had for about 10 years.. it doesn't have any adjustment for that kind of thing.

I'll do some more testing when I get home from work but I'm pretty sure the servo moves around even before it reaches full steering lock.

Hmm... it shouldn't!! :D

Double check and then let us know!!

OK I took most of the car apart when I got home this afternoon to check out the servo mounts. There was a little flex in the mounting blocks so I added a second screw to each one to try and fix it, but after I got it all back together the servo still moved around. For now I have just jammed some folded up cardboard between the servo and the chassis to stop it from moving.

You can see the movement I'm talking about in this clip: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=uxdeNQTQPwY

Hmm.. I haven't tried my WW-2 for a long time.. I will have to go home and check.. I think it is moving too much.. as if the screws to the servo mount are not tightened.. [sm=confused.gif]

I double checked all the screws (had to seeing as I took most of it apart). I think it's actually the chassis flexing where the servo mounts screw to it.

Now you got me all curious.. maybe it is the way it is.. I will go home tonight and check.. !! :D

Swapped on the new chassis...

Swapped back the original front arms.. but kept the aluminum knuckles..

LOL.. those weak front aluminum arms.. bought when I was still a noob.. I know better now.. ha!

Also installed the front U-brace back..

Should be super tough now... :D

This is for Danny, in response to the servo flexes question...

I did a video to show you the servo flexes in my WW-2.. this is with the chassis sitting on carpet (high traction), and I run a very stiff servo saver (Kimbrough).. so most of the forces are absorbed by the servo mount, not the servo saver (since it is so stiff)

But as you can see, the servo only flexes very little...

I do have the end-points adjusted properly, as mentioned before..

Yes, it is a very fun car! Very unique! And of course, the shell is the best! Identical to the original M38 Wild Willy! :D

hi danny,

welcome to WW2 world....

tested mine.... no flexing of servo that my naked eye can see....... could be a case of not 'binding' your chassis correctly resulting in chassis swaying? or something is in the way of your steering arms linkages when u steer? sometime its due to the radio's ATV setup which caused the car to 'oversteer' and hitting part of the chassis.......

hope you have resolved the 'ghost' in your WW2 bro ;)

thanks for the replies everyone

I've got no idea why mine does it.. I've been over it all and I cant see anything wrong. It flexes a little before the servo even reaches full rotation, everything moves freely, there's no binding and nothing hits the chassis.

For now I've just wedged some small pieces of cardboard between the chassis and each side of the servo to stop it from moving until I find a better solution.

no worries danny awesome.... perhaps you may wish to reduce the right and left ATV in your radio and c how it goes.

just managed to get willy a moon buggy from my flea market here... comes with stock tamiya CPR unit & unpainted ABS body :D:D

willy is heading to the moon for some walk!!! [its actually a tamiya MAD BULL which also uses WW2 wheels........ ;)]
