Vintage Trans AM (VTA) - let's see them
VTA (Vintage Trans AM) is one of the fastest (if not the fastest) growing segment of R/C racing right now. The concept is simple. You must run a 4wd touring chassis, spec wheels and tires, a vintage Trans AM body (cuda, camaro, or mustang), stock 27 turn motor, and 4 cell battery. On the track, they look great and are only about a second and a half off the pace of the stock sedans (6 cell or lipo). Aside from the cool factor of watching a dozen of these cars going around the track, the best part is "outdated" equipment is just as competitive as the latest and greatest touring car. The Associated TC3 is one of the better chassis for this class. Personally, I'm running a Corally C4 that's well over a decade old, and it works just as good as the x-rays, TC5s, and JRX-S Type Rs.
Here are some pics of my resurrected racer (and yes, I had some fun with my vinyl cutter): http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-165845.jpg http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-165846.jpg http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-165847.jpg http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga...0/lg-15107.jpg |

Only 4 cells? On a 27T motor? They must be pretty slow?! But if they're all matched, I guess that's what counts.
I had a Camaro body for a while. Didn't race it, but they are pretty nice. Cheers, Skottoman |

Nice looking ride. They aren't doing anything like that around here, but I guess the appeal of it is sort of like the slash class, ie scale looking cars etc. I've never seen a mustang body that resembled the trans am cars? In fact I've seen nothing except the 65 or 66 looking ones. Who makes such a shell?

Very cool, Itook aTC4 in on a trade and was wondering what to do with it. It has a Novak GTB and 3.5 motor but the ugly Honda looking 4 door body. Now I know what I want to do.

Here are my cars. This is truly a great class for old and new racers. This class is sounds slow but it really not. It's all about corner speed and fine tuning your car. Here our videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xy_a1vL9Nc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLjLKYikku4

|
RE: Vintage Trans AM (VTA) - let's see them
The TC4 has a 190mm body if I'm not mistaken. Can I still use a 200mm body and change the wheels or tires to take up the difference?
Who makes the cool vintage looking rims? They look like Torq thrust d's. |
RE: Vintage Trans AM (VTA) - let's see them
like the orange one. i am doing another trans am race today.

zake, the first video was really cool...makes my want to get into VTA racing. only problem is the only track near me is 40+ minutes away and they don't do VTA. I already have a TB-02, so I would need tires, wheels a motor and a body. I had two 7-cell batteries, but one cell on each battery got ruined, so I could make 3 4-cell packs, which would be good. Maybe during the summer if I go to that track enough I could start a VTA class there.

I like the way you cut the front spoiler out on the blue one. I'm going to try that. We have very low rails at my track and that'll keep me from tearing it off again. Very cool cars!

RE: Vintage Trans AM (VTA) - let's see them
Man those are some really nice cars. I have been putting off going to any track and just run in parking lots but I'm going to see if the local track has any VTA class. Something I would definitely get into.
