There is no such thing as a Thunder Tiger Max. What are you confusing this with?

Actually, the AX heavier by 1oz. Practical RPM is 2500-16000 compared o 2500-19000 and the HP rating on the AX is .75@13,500rpm compared to .84@18,000rpm. I dont know how the HP ratings compare at equal RPM, but I can tell you that at our last combat meet someone had the AX and it seemed as competitive as any other plane.

As far as prices, I think they will settle. Here in Canada it has already dropped to $149 from its original $160. Dont know that it will ever drop as low as the FX, but probably within $10-$15.

We are hearing good things about the newer GMS .25 which now comes in a remote needle configuration, claims the same power output as the FX, and weighs about 2.25oz more than the FX. At $63 and engine though, it might be worth a try.

Hi All,

'Buzz' has all the Facts straight. GMS looks the best .25 buy/great runner, and worth trying at this time. Close enough to an average OSFX.25.

No doubt the OSAX.25 is very Expensive. (And a very nice engine)

There is talk of a new Magnum .25 being developed... Which is Great !

CP, The O.S.FX.25 has fueled/powered our Maac scale combat Matches around here... for almost 10yrs! ! !

We Just want to fly Scale Combat...together... with even power...

Hey Dave........a OS.25 combat plane got away from me about 8 years ago and was headed your way. ....i bought one of those flashy GMS .25s to replace the OS that ran away and it was very disappointing. I'm glad to hear that they have gotten better. Mine just did not have any POP!

Still no-one over there tried the bog standard ASP.25?
As mentioned earlier by me, my two have been a revelation: reliable, powerful enough to combat with FX's etc and CHEEP! In our Gremlin combat, airframes are standardised and NO minipipes etc, only standard mufflers (which is a bit small). Get more power by using 30% fuel, and slightly de-compressing the engine it didn't blow up, even on an 85F day.
Worth a try!

Bill,

The ASP is not readily available on this side of the pond. It has the same power as .25LA and weighs as much as a GMS. If I'm not mistaken, ASP is manufactured by the same company that labels the MAGNUM, which currently does not make a .25 size and in Canada is not readily available either.

The specs for the OS 25 LA say 16,000 RPM The specs for the ASP 25 A is 17,000 RPMcouldn't this be used in 2548 combat?

I was told they will only turn about 17,000

Now I see why all the fuss !    about the FX

On October 10th 2009 I got one of these OS .25FX .   Well yesterday I bolted it to a big wooden block,
The same one I had bolted the ASP .25A  and the BRAT .28 and I could not belive the difference.
  The ASP turning a 10 X  3 up to 13.700
  The Brat .28 turned 10 X 3 up to 12,900
  The OS .25FX with 10 X 3   up to 15,000  I had to put my foot on the 6" X 6" block
as this engine was pulling it across the parking lot .
All numbers were done with 5% nitro and 22% castor oil runing fat and doing the pintch.

Now,
Put an MA 9x4 , up the Nitro to 15%, slap on a Kombat can and header retune the can for your elevation, and HANG ON...

Dont forget too add streamer just in case for drag.

OS really stepped on their pecker by discontinuing the .25FX ...........................A fowl up of monumental proportions[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Good thing I bought an extra 10 before they are all gone!!

Don,

Yeah, the OS FX has just proven to be the best all around 2548 engine. A lot of other engines look good on paper, but don't seem to have the power to back it up, especially with the large props and stock mufflers required in 2548. Some engines even do well on a small prop but really die with the 10" props. Now that the Magnum .28 is legal, it's not a bad option if you can't find an FX, though the carb has a lot of issues, so keeping it running reliably takes some doing.

Yesterday, March 20th, Steve Helms, President of Futaba RC Division, USA gave a talk at the WAMS swap meet here in Weatherford. It turns out that Futaba OWNS OS Max !!!! (I didn't know that)

I told Steve about the horrendous mistake that OS made in discontinuing the 25 FX in favor of the AX and that we are looking to Magnum and GMS for our "B" combat and Q-25 engines, and that we don't buy them one at a time, but rather by the boatload. He was rather shocked, it turns out that no one at Futaba/OS watches the internet discussions for marketing purposes.

Steve asked me to send him a letter outlining what we have discussed here and in other forums and that he will send it DIRECTLY to the president of Futaba in Japan. Now THAT's getting to the top of the chain of command. It's probably too late to do anything about it, but you never know.

Hi Gary,

I find it 'weird' how OS did not know how much we like the FX.25. (Try to find someone who has run one, and does not love it !)

The OSFX.25 is (was) the engine of choice for our Maac Scale Combat. As far as I know, the Aces Europe Scale Combat fliers like FX.25s too.

Good luck with your letter. Please keep us posted on any developments.

Thanks.

Have fun,
