Need help on what to get...
 

Hey, My flying club has just begun to get it to rc combat this year. I have seen some of the pictures taken during some of there events and this side of the our great hobbie looks increadably fun. So, i have done some reading around on this forum and checking out some combat sites. I now have a fairly good idea about the rules, but i cant decide on what to get to started with.... My club flys the SSC combat and i was wondering if i could get some suggestions on kits and equipment to get started with.

the spad nat is about the cheapest plane and a good engine is a magnum15 or os la 15 go to www.spadtothebone.com they have some very good planes

The best flying SSC plane I have seen is the SMACK, made by Lee Liddle. You can get him on the RCCA site. www.rccombat.com

Don't forget the Panther from Tufflight. It's a sweet flying plane and very tough. It does cost more than a spad but about the same as any of the other planes out there. SSC is a great way to get started in combat as it's much safer than open class, and cheaper. Check out the Panther at tufflight.com

There is a contest in Nashville on October 25th and some of the fellows from the Hilltop Fliers club are attending. There is an SSC and Open B meet at the new Georgia Model Aviators field on December 6 & 7. If you can make one of these you will enjoy it.

Locally (Atlanta) there are three choices for good SSC planes: the Screaming Eagle Bandito, the Down Home RC Piranha (choice of current leader in National Standings), and if you hook up with me or Don Pruitt the SMACK designed by Lee Liddle.

Here a few planes I built. Its a Pirahna. Very simple and stable. Ben Morrow won the largest open B combat meet this year at Paris with one. Brian Gilkey is the current SSC Nps (national points system) leader with a few Pirahnas. Foam wings and ply wood fuse.

For SSC I've got a P-51, 109, Huricane and a Corsair.

Open type I have a SSc minichoker.
