Combat collision image
 

This is a image taken by Jim Chaney during my clubs Funfly this past weekend. I was flying the red and yellow 40 size plane. I don't know the other airplane type but it was a dubjet of some type. It was nice long combat. One of my ailerons was knocked off early and I had limited banking ability but the combat continued on for some time afterwards. It ened with this cool collision. Both planes went down. Mine went down immediately and the other one went down with the whole tail section hanging by its control rods. No cut ribbons but plenty of balsa flying as you can see. We caught it on digital camcorder as well.

wow, nice photo. wonder what kind of digital camcorder? I'd like to have that camcorder for christmas.

Dude where is the video :D You do know your are supposed to aim for the ribbons not the airplanes. You are a true combat pilot flying even after you lost one aileron.[8D]

I should have been a little more clear. We caught the crash on digital camcorder. The image attached is from a digital camera.

cool,

sorry for the other guy really. i know what it feels like to lose a plane just like that. but not since i am into spad no.

anyway. he didnt only lose an aileron he is flying with a wing and a quarter of the other, as i can c from here the wing is totally damaged on the right side. did u land it or she fell dead ?

Im the one with the red and yellow plane :) . Both planes went down but mine went in nose first as you can see. No loss though because it was a complete freebie all the way through, except fuel. I had hoped to make it last till then end to use as a paintball gun target. We were going to charge 20 cents a shot to try and hit it as it flew by. The other plane went down behind the hill with some lower fuse damage and separated tail section.

I love combat. We tried the paintball game at one of our fun flys. It was a kick and much more difficult than you may think.

Yeah it is tough. We did get to try it the next day with a much smaller plane that was moving pretty fast. The way I had it planned would have been much easier. I was going to come by doing bomb drops, which I do just about at idle and maybe a maximum of 30 feet high. It was going to be 20 cents per shot if I missed the target and 25 cents per shot if I hit it. There definitely would have been some balsa flying, which was my plan. I wanted to see how long that plane would stay up before enough surface was finally blown away to where it could just not fly anymore.

Is it legal to shoot paintballs at a plane??? I mean according to AMA rules. The way I understood it it is not. No projectiles may be shot at a plane from the ground. I could be wrong about the rule, but our club thought about it and our CD said no because what if you hit a servo and lost control of the plane and the plane hit a spectator on the ground.

There has been some discussion of using a paintball gun in this fashion on combat planes and since our club is not AMA, we would not have to worry about that.

In any case, I have to wonder if there really would be any problem using a paintgun targeted to a combat plane so long as the plane causes no harm to property or person in an AMA sanctioned club but with this sport, anything that can go wrong, will.

I think it is against the rules to shoot something from a plane. There is no mention of shooting at a plane. I have shot paintballs at a plane, and it is fun. You have to lead the target a bunch, and the plane has to be flying real slow. The few hits that occurred did no damage, but it was shot at a competetive open b airframe, so it was reinforced quite well. I bet balsa would disintegrate. I have shot paintballs at plain 2" 15psi building foam, and the balls go right through. sometimes without breaking. They did break on a covered foam wing though.

We combated together up here in Iowa a few months ago. Did you get another electric combat plane together?

Yes, I tried the MEC 28-??-?? brushless motor, and it flew well for 2 minutes until it burned up. 350 watts was a little too much for it. MEC did refund my money though. I will probably try the mega 22/30/3 because the megas are very tough(thats the one that lasted 2 rounds, and is still going just with the wrong wind). The 22/30's might even be viable in open B. They are pricey though.
