I figure why get carried away with an expensive 4 stroke when you have fixed gear hanging down anyway!;)
If you keep that up, I'm gonna spend the kids' college fund on a Top Flite Gold Edition F4U with retracts and a radial!!

Hey all ... just picked up the Corsair and a O.S. .25FX to mate it with. This sounds like a good match. Two questions I'm sure you all can help me with:

1.) I'm considering making the rudder functional but am leery about the extra weight. I'm going to use it as a sport model. Is there any overriding reason to have a functional ruder on this model? I don't think the .25 should tourque it over too bad on takeoff.

2.) What gear did you replace the standard pushrods with? They ARE pretty wimpy. I was thinking standard 2-56 wire would be enough. I haven't tried to slip it through the existing tubes yet as I just bought the model.

I love this plane. This is my second one...the first one went to haven..
I would suggest you put metal gear servos (hitech 85mg) in it as well as beef up the elevator. This plane is soo much fun that you will love to fly this plane high and come in for a full speed dive....and low pass. Here is a picture of my special surprise

Baz, I used the pushrods that came with the plane, no problem. The guides seem to be well anchored. If you are going to take off from a runway, a rudder seems pretty necessary to me. I taxi mine from the pits to the center of the runway for take off and then taxi back after landing. It adds to the scale appearance for me. If you fly from a large field, then the rudder might not be important. Your engine should be more than enough. I fly mine with Magnum .30 4-stroke and from a field at 5500' and it looks scale in the air. I use the stock Hitech medium sized servos since they had the recommended torque however if your looking to make supersonic speeds then the metal gear servos and tail feather mods mentioned might be in order. I have several dozen flights on mine including fun-fly spot landings and have no servo or airframe problems.

This is the most enjoyable and easy to fly and land warbird I've ever flown. Enjoy and keep us posted! You might want to read all the posts here, lots of folks with lots of good ideas and suggestions. Now if I can just stop having so much fun with that darned Wattage Rookie my bud brought me, I can get back to the Corsair!

Thanks ARF Guy. No gear for me; I'm going to keep it light. I have a few HS-81MGs "in stock" so I'll use them in the wings and elevator. Glad to hear the stock hardware works OK. I'll use the 2-56 if it is an easy retrofit. I'm not planning to hit supersonic speeds. The Dynaflite Corsair with a K&B 0.45 Sportster I built years and years ago flies pretty slow/scale especially with the gear doors mounted on the front of the landing gear wire. My guess is that this plane will easily outrun it with the 0.25FX.

Just remember for the first hand launch, you might expect a torque roll. Launching with not more than 70% throttle with 9x6 on .25 FX, and with a good straight forward toss would help a lot.

No gear then you won't need a rudder unless you're planning on manuvers needing rudder.

i want to buy the p-51 but i am new to this. i'm going to buy it through towerhobbies but i wanna know what parts on the list are neede and what not , my second question is:i already have a radio can i use it with the miniservos? the radio is a 6channel one..

Chac,

If you are new to flying, buy a good shoulder-wing trainer or low-wing sport plane and get lot's of flght time. The Mustang and Corsair are not planes for low time pilots. They are fast and maneuverable and the are not self righting like a trainer.

If you are an intermediate pilot, then you should be able to fly these planes The Mustang will be quicker and with a tapered wing, less forgiving. You can use any radio with small servos (but not micro) but I think the servos must have 30+ inch/ounces of torque. A .25 2-stroke will fly both very quickly. I have both and though I haven't finished the Mustang, I'm seeing that it is quite a bit smaller, less wing area with less room for radio, battery, etc. I modified the Corsair with a working rudder and landing gear and it is a sweet plane.

Not trying to scare you off, just trying to prevent discouragement. If you are already and intermediate flier then buy and enjoy.

Finally, beautiful sunny day, just perfect for the first Corsair flight this season. Indeed, everything was perfect until a first midair collision ever happened to me. After a crash (scars on the wing and vertical fin lost) both planes went nose pointing straight to the ground (fuselage practically disintegrated up to wing LE). Well, she was an excellent plane R.I.P. [sm=crying.gif]

Yeah, I know... limited quantities. I'm just sitting in front of their site and thinking what to do. 100$ for the plane (worth of), but then additional International Air to Croatia 35$ and about the same for custom taxes... I'm not so sure... :eek:

Change out the cheap mount that comes with the kit, mine split after the 2nd flight with the .25fx engine. And your dead on with changing out the rear pushrod, at high speeds the elevator had limited movement with the stock pushrod.


Dont know if I will just grab a new engine mount or go electric.

Yikes! David, that's not good at all! My guess is that you got a bad one but I will inspect mine thoroughly before I use it. I already have the .25FX mounted and ready to go.

I did change out the elevator wire. I bought 1/16 dia wire at my LHS and used a Sig keeper. The stock wire with Z bend was a VERY loose fit. Certainly a "jeer" for this kit amongst many "cheers". I used the stock wire for the throttle end but I soldered on a threaded ball link for the throttle arm interface.

One more thing ... my tail cone DID NOT FIT. Did anyone else experience this problem??

My tail cone fit with just some minor work and I'm still flying with the original motor mount and a Magnum 4 stroke. I have seen those fiber-filled mounts break after a little abuse so it probably is worth inspecting once in a while. So far my Corsair must have 100+ flights including a fun fly with some firm spot landings and it still looks and flys great.
