Drone combat for fun and newbies.

This is a little contest we are going to try so our newbies can get a feel for it. Tie a 40' string with 20' of plastic streamer and another piece of 20' crepe paper behind a combat (or otherwise) plane. (80' total)
Go up and fly around in circles (none evasive). The one with the most cuts per flight wins. The round will last until one of the planes run out of fuel. This will be flown one plane at a time.
What do you think. Seems like this would be a good way to have fun and let the new and old guys get some practice with a fairly low chance of midairs. The paper streamer behind the plastic streamer should allow you to get at least two cuts per round. The smaller the pieces you cut the better.

Jimbo, It sounds good to me. Anything we can do to get some of these non-combatants off of their cans and chasing a streamer gets my vote.

We have to start them somewhere. Let us know how it works out.

We've held entire meets like this and called it "pursuit" combat. The enemy towed a 50' leader and 50' streamer and everyone else was streamerless and went for it. It's a BLAST!!! Just wish it would catch on more mainstream. Try also adding shorter leaders and streamers to the wings of the enemy so it's not over if someone gets a lucky shot right off the bat. Use sticky stuff, so if someone gets a piece they now become a target as well...you guys will have a riot!

You would have more than one guy chasing the streamer I assume? Did ya'll have midairs? I was thinking one at a time and maybe even make it a timed event to avoid any midairs.

Tried that at our club,I was the drone,60' of ribbon and the chaser cut my plane in half,no more being a puller.

WOW ! No kidding, even with a 60' streamer? Well maybe the 80' will work better. Our combat pilots are pretty good, I don't think we'll have that problem. I hope !
